Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 13, 2017 8:59 am Hello Everyone, This is my first post We have just bought a knockdown house in the northern beaches of Sydney and are just starting our 'researching' to build our new dream house. I have spent some time on this website but I'm not really sure where to start, there is so much information. At this stage we have found one house with clarendon (Bayside/oceanside 36) that fits on our block and ticks all of our boxes, but we will keep looking and keep our options open. I have some initial questions I'm hoping people can help- or point to the right topics for me! 1) Is there a topic somewhere that everyone shares pricing knowledge? If anyone can share tender pricing on the Bayside/oceanside 36/38 I'd really appreciate it. 2) Has someone created a document to help compare all the inclusions/exclusions and what we should be looking for? I'd love a framework rather than starting from scratch 3) We are a young family with 2 kids (toddlers) What features does your family appreciate/love about your completed houses for families- now- and right up to teenagers. eg I'd love a pool if we can fit one in 4) We have a block 15Mw and 31ML, so if anyone has built on something with a similar sized- please let me know what you built and if you love it!?? 5) What other topics should i look at and maybe useful prior to paying any initial money? 6) does anyone have a good overview of the full process for Metricon/clarendon? 7) we are probably going to start the process with multiple builders at least to tender stage- has anyone done this before? I thought we might have more leverage doing it this way. 8- What are your lessons learnt/mistakes when building your home? (eg i saw one person picked the wrong door for her Walk in wardrobe and now cant open the drawers unless the door is shut!) Thanks in advance to those who take the time to respond. I'm really starting from scratch here and very overwhelmed with the amount of information on here, i guess i just need some direction! It's my own design and as an owner builder.... at least at this stage. I think number one is to look at you aspect and choose a house with this in mind, basically, living in the north and service rooms on the south. Work out what you want in your house and then try and find one that fulfills most of them. Homeworld and the like are a good start to get an idea of what you like and don't like. There are groups on this site that have built with different builders and that would also be a good place to start. We've had the offer of a short term tenant whilst waiting for CDC/DA home approval and demolition for our knock down rebuild. It would achieve a pretty low rent as it's… 0 13743 Hi I live in a 100yr old semi and my neighbour added an additional floor last yr and our architect has advised that we can knock down our semi and build a free-standing… 0 37681 |
