Browse Forums Building A New House Re: The epic home building race - TIME 2 GET 281Jul 25, 2017 11:15 am Question for the brains trust. And honest "house rules judge" type responses are welcome. Seeing the skirtings and architraves in wood wants me to go wood strained instead. But as my SS has said, they used a flat cut timber which shows those cuts... Ugly? And future warping problems? Cheap looking Or would still OK as just wood stained over painting them? Plus if they're painted white (or whatever you've chosen) it makes it a bit easier to match wall paints down the track should you wish to repaint. Edit - I just had a look at the last page with your kitchen piccies, if you want those wood tones brought in don't forget you can always accessorize with bits and pieces in natural wood finishes. Your kitchen is beautiful and modern, I feel like wood stained architraves and skirting boards would detract from the feature of the kitchen. It is all coming together nicely Re: The epic home building race - TIME 2 GET 286Jul 25, 2017 8:25 pm aloenyx The stained wood reminds me of my parents 1970s house. Not a fan..though could be their ugly wallpaper too..:p thanks Dawn! It's funny how our memories and experiences affect our design choices!! Thinking about it, my family homestead definitely had wood-stained traves and skirts! So perhaps I'm trying to bring back nice memories. Also based on our timber windows, painted is probably less maintenance, although windows see more sun and moisture. Thanks, bank! Yep, most people I've spoken to already have said the same... and agree, it's not all about the looks. It's also about the maintenance issues as well!! We were mindful of that in a lot of our selections initially. Definitely some important considerations both current and future other than fleeting thoughts... definitely gave the builders a bit of a cross-eyed moment when we brought it up. Will not be changing any plans at this stage! And for sure, adding wooden touches will be in the post-move decorating plans. Thanks again! It is all coming together nicely Thanks so much! When I look at my two-tone kitchen, I think about your two-tone bricks as well. Haha.. Otherwise, the biggest win is my wife actually loves the way the kitchen turned out. We checked out the house together today as we were both on our day out. She had been a bit hesitant about the dark towers... and because it's all glossy Polytech (yes, possible maintenance and cleaning issues.. ) it reflects our park view in the cupboard drawers!! So good to see everything going so smoothly for you. Good to see that bath water proofed up too. Mmmmmmm what's the verdict on the skirts and arks? Paint or stain? Personally I would paint. Oh the screen looks very cool, will be awesome to see it in situ. I have to agree with you about the cold!! OMG it's freezing out here, we had a white frost yesterday!! Not cool! Thanks we are really trucking along. Step by step closer to the finish line. Finding it hard to be patient but the builders are doing such a great job. Very little to fault for, no matter how much I try (buyers privilege?) Glad to hear/see you on the forums! I hope all is well in all! And omg.. very cold. We snuggle up in a single room every night at the moment with the one heater. Thankfully we have our king bed put to good use. Like a pack of hamsters! Also the snuggling is easier with a five year old and a baby. 😝 Follow our first house build here! -> https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=86484 Re: The epic home building race - TIME 2 GET 294Jul 25, 2017 10:21 pm Bridgetwitch You should be excited Rural... your house is looking amazing! - B A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87210 Thanks!
