Browse Forums Building A New House Re: CABINETS/TILES Valeco Homes - Polished Concrete + Monoch 361Feb 20, 2018 4:23 pm We met on site with our site supervisor today, he showed us the aluminium piece option for the gaps at our sliding doors. It's not great, but it's the best option that we have. So we have also requested that the aluminium piece go around the door reveals too - so that it seems more like it's all a part of the door instead of just a strip on the ground. A little hard to explain, but I'll show photos once it is all complete. As expected (due to being invoiced), we have cabinets and tiling completed. But apart from that, the driveway and a few facade things, nothing else seems to be done yet. They have to replace the benchtop in our butler pantry because they put in 20mm when it should be 40mm. Painting was scheduled to start last week, but they had gyprock things to fix first apparently. So painting will start this week. I'm wishing I paid more attention to the study desks that we put in. I think they need to be slightly higher, though I can probably deal with that. My biggest gripe is that I didn't realise bullnose edge was that ugly rounded edge... I HATE it. Like, it actually hurts me to look at them. haha (I think because I associate it with school desks). Probably just have to change them after handover. I'm absolutely CRUSHING on our Rugged Concrete caesarstone benchtops paired with out black cabinets though! I almost wish we went for a more greyish grout in the splashback, just for a bit of definition.. but I'm not sad about it, it still looks great! Love the bathrooms too.. I think even more-so once painting is done and it's cleaned... and even better once we switch over to matte black tapware after handover. Anyway, enough talking... bring on the photos! I'll post them separately to all my waffling. That rugged concrete was worth the upgrade - works really well with the black. Meanwhile we have a new SS lol Re: CABINETS/TILES Valeco Homes - Polished Concrete + Monoch 364Feb 20, 2018 5:47 pm gr8ly @staceyrussell that kitchen <3 everything looking great! must really feel like a house now that the cabinets are installed. That rugged concrete was worth the upgrade - works really well with the black. Meanwhile we have a new SS lol Yes, so in love! Excited for painting to get an even better feel for it all. RS? Or another new one? Any more progress for you this week? Re: CABINETS/TILES Valeco Homes - Polished Concrete + Monoch 365Feb 20, 2018 5:51 pm yep! we are onto our third.. have to laugh.. PS lasted less than a week! Maybe cause he put our solar panel on the wrong roof!.. Still waiting for head office to sort that one out. We met onsite (for the first time with anyone from Valeco) to go over our electrical. There were a few mistakes, so im glad they made the time to see me. Hope the tilers do the same. We are expecting bricking to start by the end of the week. I'll have a quick look after work tomorrow to make sure there is some progress. Cladding will start next week. Then hopefully we will get our inspector through by the end of next week. Meanwhile im still swooning over your kitchen benches!! Such a good decision Re: CABINETS/TILES Valeco Homes - Polished Concrete + Monoch 366Feb 20, 2018 6:00 pm Oh yes PS* is what I meant. Damn. Haha so do you know who your new SS is yet? Yeah.. keep on top of them! Especially at the start of the build to make sure structural things are done properly! Re: CABINETS/TILES Valeco Homes - Polished Concrete + Monoch 367Feb 20, 2018 6:11 pm Yeah his intials are JN. Hope he lasts the rest of the build. Every tradie working for valeco know they have an issue keeping their SSs. There’s a lot of concerns at the moment. But I’m hoping it sorts itself out. Valeco have been extremely slow in our estate. The guys down the road with valeco have been waiting a long time for their handover. Their inspector found a massive defect though. A leaking roof. Which has damaged part of the wall. Hopefully they do a better job with ours. Normally we all share the same ss Re: WALLS/LOCKUP Valeco Homes - Polished Concrete + Monochro 368Feb 20, 2018 6:31 pm staceyrussell Our flooring has already been completed. It is done after the frames are up, but before the gyprock. However, we haven't yet seen the floors as they are covered up completely for protection during the build. Very excited to see it though! How have you been so patient?? I would not be able to wait, and I'd be worried the WHOLE time ahah. Also - I LOVE your kitchen. Holy smokes it is sexy. It should be the one constant so that you have someone you can put your trust and faith in and communicate with. Fingers crossed JN stays with you throughout your build! I believe shezzza is having some issues, down the road from me. How is everything going Shezzza? I would have thought you would be close to handover now. Our estimated completion date from day one was April 8th. I assumed we would probably finish ahead of time, but now I'm not so sure. Even though there isn't much left to do.. they have a few major things to fix for us which could cause delays. It's fantastic to hear that you have an inspector too! You can put all your confidence in your inspector at least, haha! I'm wondering if we should get one.. might be a bit late though? I dunno. Re: CABINETS/TILES Valeco Homes - Polished Concrete + Monoch 370Feb 20, 2018 6:58 pm I would get one for handover staceyrussell - its around $500 Re: WALLS/LOCKUP Valeco Homes - Polished Concrete + Monochro 371Feb 20, 2018 6:59 pm allblaqk How have you been so patient?? I would not be able to wait, and I'd be worried the WHOLE time ahah. Also - I LOVE your kitchen. Holy smokes it is sexy. Haha, I know... I am dying a little inside.. don't worry We've seen small sections (by lifting some of the protection boards for a peak. We already know there are some hairline cracks, but we don't mind because we like the character it brings) but it's not the same as seeing the whole thing once it is cleaned. That will be the best day of my life, I'm sure! HA Hehe thanks! We don't have any overhead cabinets and initially all the walls will just be painted Crisp White. But we are most likely painting all the walls in the kitchen black, so it ends up being this really dark and sexy section of the house. I'll add in some whites/freshness with canisters/pot plants. We plan to paint a few other walls black too: the back wall of the study nooks, the bedhead wall in the master bedroom, the theatre walls, and the window wall of the kids retreat. We are also thinking of painting the hallway wall (that runs down the entirety of the house) black....though I can't make up my mind. I'm not sure if this will make the whole house a bit too dark. Re: CABINETS/TILES Valeco Homes - Polished Concrete + Monoch 372Feb 20, 2018 7:10 pm Love it. I love black - I would do the hallway - if you hate it, its not a hard thing to reverse. We added a feature wall in our media but I will probably do more walls or wallpaper later on. Love the idea of black walls in the kitchen too. Sexy for sure. Re: CABINETS/TILES Valeco Homes - Polished Concrete + Monoch 373Feb 20, 2018 8:09 pm Here are my awful attempts at using some render images from the software I used to design our house... + photoshop to see what it might look like with black walls.... Its a yes from me! Re: CABINETS/TILES Valeco Homes - Polished Concrete + Monoch 375Feb 20, 2018 9:54 pm wow! what program is that? that looks awesome! i would have never thought that black looks that good in so many places! Re: CABINETS/TILES Valeco Homes - Polished Concrete + Monoch 376Feb 20, 2018 10:01 pm Its homestyler Some functions/furniture can be a little limiting. For example, no mirror sliding doors for wardrobes. Limited colour choices for kitchen cabinets (i had to use photoshop to make them black with grey benchtops). Window sizes were weird so i used wall openings instead as they were more customisable. Tiling/vanity options arent great. Etc. But it was great for doing the floor plan designing and then being able to "walk through" the house. And the image render function is pretty cool. Re: CABINETS/TILES Valeco Homes - Polished Concrete + Monoch 377Feb 20, 2018 10:18 pm Wow Stacey. Your photos look amazing! Loving the monochrome theme and how it works all works very well together. Renders are sexy as. Well done CABINETS/TILES Valeco Homes - Polished Concrete + Monochrome 378Feb 21, 2018 3:44 am How exciting to see your dream and colours coming together. It looks amazing. I love it, even though it’s the complete opposite of my white on white on white kitchen Re: CABINETS/TILES Valeco Homes - Polished Concrete + Monoch 379Feb 21, 2018 5:34 am Your kitchen is outstanding! I've chosen a dark palette too and it's the "house thing" I'm most excited to see. Your photos have me jumping up and down in excitement! ~ Emma Re: CABINETS/TILES Valeco Homes - Polished Concrete + Monoch 380Feb 21, 2018 8:15 pm Thanks @chesapeake Ripper , sparrowsnest and Lot126 !! To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9830 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10926 |
