We had our walk through and we were appalled by the obvious poor paint work on doors, particularly the front door, cornices, skirting and walls. Some other cosmetic issues in the kitchen, window frame scratches that require replacing, doors hinges, cracks, the garage wasn't even clean full of dust and poor paint work. Also a Whole list of things my private inspector found. Has anyone else had similar issues? We are suppose to have hand over less than a week after the walk through next week. Doubt it will be up to scratch by then. Please would like advice about handover. Did anyone accept handover and let them repair after? Thank you! Re: Hand over tips please 2Jan 27, 2017 4:12 am Hi Bella, I would just tell them your not accepting it until they rectify all the issues. I know that's easier said than done as I imagine your keen to move into your new home but my guess is they would be more likely to fix it faster if they haven't handed over the keys yet as post handover they may take their time. Anything that isn't complete by handover make sure you get confirmation in writing off all the things they still need to fix. Hi Bella Whatever you do make sure if you do handover you write everything you find down on your handover defect list and do another big walkthrough. Our PCI list was quite large and we only concentrated on checking that at handover - I should have looked harder - I found scratches on our glass splashback a few days later and was told at our six month warranty that it wasn't covered as it wasn't on the list at handover and I couldn't prove it wasn't done after handover. Our paintwork was really ** too - I even had bits flake off the wall when I touched it a couple of days after handover and lots of runs, etc. I have decided to live with it until it's time to paint again, but I think we will be doing a lot of sanding prep! We also handed over with 3 stair treads not stained - I made our Ss ring the stair people to book them in the next day to resolve as I couldn't see how we could move in without this done. They will schedule people to fix things after handover but it is a pain when you are living in the house and if you are working as well and need to be there for trades! Our guys did try to fix up most things before handover though. I think they just ran out of time. Good luck! We felt completely rushed during our walk through and also feel we missed a few things. Despite having the poor paint work or your list it still wasn't fixed? We weren't even given a defect list to fill. I didn't even think about having to be available to trades. As both my husband and I work. You have been so helpful. Really appreciate your experience and advice. Thanks, Bella Re: Hand over tips please 5Jan 28, 2017 1:46 pm bella18 Hi MinandB, Thank you so much for your advice. Take your time and put everything you want on the list. Some of our paintwork issues were fixed others weren't. No one else probably notices or would say anything but we do. Thank you again for your advice! We will take our time. We just informed the builder we don't want handover until things are fixed. Have them 2 weeks since that's what my supervisor said is the length of time he needs to fix it all. I'm shocked that things were on the list were still not fixed? I can't believe they get away with it. I totally understand what you mean about seeing defects and where no one else notices but we sure did. They pretend not to notice it. Maybe guests are too polite to say anything. Re: Hand over tips please 7Feb 01, 2017 2:12 pm MinandB bella18 Hi MinandB, Thank you so much for your advice.
