Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 25, 2017 11:49 pm Hi All,
Long time lurker but first time poster. Figured I should finally get around to joining in the fun! We finally settled on a 1 acre block in a semi-rural area after months of back and forth between banks, lawyers and Auspost. The house plans are all sorted and they've just started to get the earthworks done this week. We made a few changes from their standard plan, partly for budgetary reasons and partly because I'd never use half of the stuff. Will pop some pics and whatnot up shortly. Keen as to get the process underway and get into the house. Had fun the last few days moving the gates and fences. Lesson learnt - Never plant large trees next to a fenceline! Makes it a nightmare when you have to shift something and contest with tree roots in your post holes. Glad we got rid of the 28 large trees that were on the block. The ones on the verge outside were the issue with the fences. Re: First Home - Plunkett Albany 4Jan 26, 2017 11:44 am Building with Plunkett. We worked off their Forrest plan and made a few changes. Got rid of baths, powder rooms and home theatre in favour of bigger alfresco, games room and walk in pantry. All selections done. Were lucky in that we could get all of that done whilst waiting for the land and finance to be sorted out. Gone for the Karndean Tawny Oak vinyl planks, a darkish blue/grey carpet for bedrooms, a light blue/grey theme for most walls. Supplying a lot of the bathroom and kitchen fixtures ourselves as we were able to get them.a heap cheaper. Front Door - The other one was a bit out of budget, so had to settle for the next one down. Exterior Bricks - Absolutely love these things. Was well worth the extra it cost us to go single course bricks over the double ones they usually use (next to no red coloured bricks in the doubles!) and the extra to have them tumbled. Pad down and just waiting on plumbers now before they get the slab started. Bit more of a fall off at the back than I was hoping for, but I can always slope that off a bit more later. The fronts and sides will likely wind up with retaining walls. Got the new fencing and gates in. The old stuff was too small to get the trucks in, so the new and improved ones. 7.2m gate will make it easy to get the boat in! Slab and framing are done and dusted! Got a bit of landscaping work to do once it's finished just due to how high up the pad is built, but that'll happen over time. Likely retain the front and sides and slope off the rear.
