Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 23, 2017 7:29 pm Hey Guys, Theres only one other post about these guys and it seems to have died off and was filled with quite a few negative feedback responses. However this hasn't really deterred us as so far we have found them extremely reasonable with costings and their customer service so far has been great. Anyone have any more recent feedback about this company? We were originally going to build the Bermuda 23 (with all added extra extensions) by Porter Davis, but they quoted us a whopping 48k site cost, on level dirt, pre cut and with a third of the property with a pre existing retaining wall, this was all without a formal soil test or Draftsman assistance. This was just a guy from PD doing a breif check. Whilst it may be the case to have site costs high, no one else on our street had site costs that high and BHC said it was unreasonable to charge any more than 15k. So if one company can charge 15k for site costs, and NOT bump up the price anywhere else, I don't see how PD can charge 48k. Not to say their sales consultants weren't fantastic, or their world of style, or the house design in general. But we just couldn't get a mortgage that would cover 48k of site fee's. Our broker says it doesn't add real visual value to the home and the Bank wont value that extra 48k. SO... As mentioned above, has anyone else gone with BHC? We are in the western Suburbs, Building in Mt Holden Estate in Sunbury and would love to hear from others who have also gone with them. Even if it's negative, it all helps in the long run. Thanks! Re: Bright Homes Constructions 2Jan 23, 2017 7:58 pm Hi. We are building with them at the moment on Heathmont. We're should be at lock up this week. Our block was a difficult one and we had to switch builders at the last minute and came accross BBC. Their costs were reasonable especially site costs. I can't comment compared to other companies but so far the communication hasn't been the best since started. We live only 5 mins from the block so have been watching the progress so it doesn't really bother me too much. The build itself is going fine and I expect it would be the same as any other builder in that you're only as good as the subbies they have working. Upgrade options and colour selection was good, they have a stand range same as any else. We selected a few things. It listed from Harvey Norman and they just charged us basically retail price. I'm talking a out specific cookers and exhaust rangehoods. Once they start building they give periodic updates on progress but if your persistent you can get more. Happy to talk in more detail if you want to PM me. Ive had a really good experience with one of their draftsmen Anthony, he was a gun. And the colour consultant was lovely and gave us some good ideas. I can send pics as well if u want. PS ours was a fully custom build. Total price was 309k for a 29sq house with double glazing, extra insulation, full eaves, seperate garage, full site costs and a number of luxury items along the way. My honest opinions. Hope they help Phil Re: Bright Homes Constructions 3Jan 24, 2017 9:49 am Hey! Would love to see pictures if you're willing to share! We're right on the edge of paying the $1500 for the draftsman and to lock them in. We've just been approved for the land so we're pretty excited. We only live five mins from the block too and we've been creeping around it for days. How is the communication poor? I everyone seems to say that but I don't really understand what they mean? Re: Bright Homes Constructions 4Jan 24, 2017 11:18 am Well it's more really that I'd like to know what sort of works are due to happen...I.e. "this week we will fit all your doors and then should have the cabinet makers in next week" That sort of future update doesn't seem to happen unless you call and ask for it. The comms during the drafting stages and colours etc were all fine. Initially it took a few weeks for the first plan to be drawn up and we didn't know if our job was taking that long or if it was more that there were other jobs in front of us. I think for the most part your likely to get this sort of comms from a lot of builders. I'll upload some pics a bit later Re: Bright Homes Constructions 8Jan 24, 2017 11:31 am There you go. Kind of reverse order but you get the idea As you can see we've got an unusual block that scared off some other builders. Our total site costs were around 30k which was 10k more than what they'd built into the initial quote, but in there defence the house siting changed and did recquire a greater cut/fill. Re: Bright Homes Constructions 9Jan 25, 2017 9:29 pm Thanks! Yeah your site does look a bit unique but I'm glad they were able to provide with what you needed and asked for I would anticipate any communication lag between the buyer and a company, it just tends to happen that way. I have taken every negataive (and positive) review with a grain of salt. People all have different oppinions on things and have different levels of expectations from their builders. I'm just hoping bright homes are the right company for us because financially, they would put us in a better position. Do you have a picture of your floor plan? Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 74682 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
