Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 14, 2017 9:37 am We have been an estimated handover date of 6th Feb - can't wait! But..before I go booking removalists and getting ready to move in, I'm wondering if there is anything I should try and get done before we move in. We won't be able to do landscaping prior and the driveway is included from our builder. We are organising a letterbox but I'm not sure what else! So my question is...what do you wish you had completed before moving in? Re: What do you wish you had done before moving in? 2Jan 14, 2017 10:40 am The one thing I have on my list to do before moving in is sealing the garage floor. Ours is just concrete so I don't want to spill or have an oil leak and the concrete just suck it up. I will be keeping an eye on your thread for more stuff to add though Building in Stone Ridge with CMA - Follow my build: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=85842 Re: What do you wish you had done before moving in? 3Jan 14, 2017 12:49 pm 1sttimer_stoneridge The one thing I have on my list to do before moving in is sealing the garage floor. Also curtains/blinds which I arranged for the afternoon of handover. Because houses are most vunerable on the days after handover. (that is why a lot of Builders don't install appliances until handover) I actually moved in on handover day although I was practically camping inside. My wife moved in the following weekend after those initial jobs were done. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! I have pet rabbits and a kitty, so I'm hoping to have all the fencing and side gates in before I move. I can wait to move in, but worried about leaving the house empty due to break ins and such. Re: What do you wish you had done before moving in? 6Sep 01, 2017 3:11 pm Interesting thread! I am in the same situation. I could come up with the following so far Before PCI : 1.appointment for blind measurement 2.Opticomm/NBN registration and connection request. 3.ISP 4.Measurement of furniture Before Hand over : 1.Content and house insurance 2.Fencing 3.Bin collection 4.Letter box 5.Sealing the garage floor Re: What do you wish you had done before moving in? 7Sep 01, 2017 3:37 pm my plan is to win tattslotto to pay for it all...... Re: What do you wish you had done before moving in? 9Sep 01, 2017 7:31 pm In no particular order, the first few - they just have to get done immediately. We also have dogs. Fences Concrete paths down the side of house Letterbox Blinds install Then in no other particular order, but slightly less important. Seal grout Seal garage floor Our blinds people will be coming very soon to measure, so hopefully they're ready as soon as move in. I had my bins delivered the last week of my build and my builder kindly put them in the garage for me. I had my NBN connected the week before handover, builder gave me access to the house to let them in. Re: What do you wish you had done before moving in? 12Sep 17, 2017 6:48 pm Thanks. That's great to know. I reckon I wouldn't even have thought about the bins.
