Look at that face!! Sounds like you have some progress I can't believe what a big job moving house has been! The landscapers sent through their plan and Mrs Bob didn't like it so waiting for her re-jigged plan before I email them back. Not much progress elsewhere in the house. Work and the pooch are taking up my spare time Our build thread with Smart Homes for Living in Wellard https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=86092 Re: First timers - Smart Homes for Living in Wellard 435Sep 21, 2017 11:43 am Mrs Bob sketched out her re-worked design on a piece of paper so I've re-jigged the landscapers plan with some crude MS Paint skill It's not too different... We just made the giant garden bed around the letterbox a bit smaller and added a gap so we can actually get to the letterbox. Also removed the plants in front of the office window. Mrs Bob didn't like the landscapers recommendation or any of the recommendations on their list so that will require a visit to a nursery later for us to fill in. I said not to leave it up to me or I'll just put chilli plants along there The big tree in the middle of the lawn is compulsory as it was a condition of buying the land. Will be a red flowering gum which the local wildlife should enjoy. Mrs Bob also changed the recommended plants to some others from the list although I need to see if the ones she selected will work as a hedge along the side. We are kind of using them as an extended fence as the house is set so far back (which I still hate seeing all the wasted space out the front... Still would have preferred an extra two metres out the back as opposed to the front). Pretty much my only sort of regret about the house is not challenging the minimum set back for our section of street. Walking around the estate most houses seem to be closer to the street. I still think our backyard is plenty big enough... but it feels like the front space is a bit wasted.... I grew up in the UK where the houses are built closer to the road to maximise the space out the back which makes more sense to me. Anyway, here are the before and after designs. Oh and the lawn won't be Wintergreen... I told them I wanted Palmetto but they still put couch in the plan they sent through... It helps having the landscapers throw some ideas at us. I've sort of marked out where things are going to go in the backyard. Going to pave outside the laundry where the bins currently reside using the leftover pavers we have (although Mrs Bob suggested moving the bins down the other side of the house as I have to take my car out the garage every time we take the bins out but I figure that's less of a hassle than walking around the entire house every time we have something to put in the bin). Then we will mulch or wood chip the rest of that side. In the main yard area, we plan to rip up the final row of pavers in the alfresco and then extend the alfresco area out a metre and then run that along in front of the sliding bedroom door. It will stop after the door and we will put in a garden bed. Across from that garden bed with be a garden shed (thinking around 1.83 * 2.45m) for all of the gardening tools but mainly my BBQ stuff like wood and charcoal. Then grass along the main back area with the raised vegetable garden I bought from Aldi the other week going somewhere near the far corner away from the shed. Then we already have a coffee plant that will be going along the back fence and plan to pick up an lemon tree and possibly a lime or orange tree to go along the back fence. The other side down the house will again be mulched or woodchipped with some tiered herb gardens or something along the fence so it looks a bit nicer when looking out the kitchen window. The big question is still where to put the washing line but I figured I could knock up a frame by the shed for a fold down line that won't take up too much room when not in use. Still a work in progress but feel like we have some kind of plan now anyway Our build thread with Smart Homes for Living in Wellard https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=86092 Re: First timers - Smart Homes for Living in Wellard 439Sep 21, 2017 5:57 pm Hehe, bins are annoying, there's no perfect place for them!! I have the same issue with moving the car, I have to take them out through the garage because the cat run blocks the other side.. and I want them out the back to put things in easily rather than out the front on the side.
