Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 01, 2017 8:12 am Hi, My partner and I went and visited a home inspirations centre and was introduced to the Clipsal C-Bus smart home technology system. Was wondering if anyone has installed one in there home? Are they worth it? What was the cost? Thanks Re: Anyone installed Clipsal smart home technology? 2Jan 01, 2017 8:23 am Have not installed one myself but costs wise the $$$ can be endless pending on how far you want to take things. Is it worth it ? Well that depends on the end user and what your needs and plans for it are. Its great if you plan on using it to its maximum potential but can be a total waste of dollars also if you don't really have the needs for it. Best thing is to sit down and write down exactly what u plan to get out of it and see if its worth the extra $$$ or is the money being better of spent elseware. Its usually the latter for most standard home owners. Cheers hope this helps Re: Anyone installed Clipsal smart home technology? 3Jan 02, 2017 5:11 pm Yes have C-bus in my house which was built last year and my previous house that I built in 2000. It is a very good system, but is a little too expensive. I only installed it because I could buy the parts at trade price and because I know how to program it myself. If I were to pay retail price/sparky mark-up plus programming costs it would have been silly. As it was, and don't tell the missus, it ended up costing around $20k for all the hardware. This is for a 4 bedroom double story house. So have 4 8 channel dimmers, 1 8 channel relay and 1 12 channel relay, 25 switches, of which 8 are EDLT (LCD screen), 5 motion sensors, 1 8 channel low voltage relay (for irrigation control) and 1 Wiser2 which allows access via a smartphone app, as well as doing some fancy logic. The other thing worth mentioning is C-bus, and most automation systems might I add, is LED dimming. It can be a bit hit and miss which products work and which need assistance to work properly though using load correction modules etc. My builders sparky was happy to install the hardware and the bus cable. I fitted off, programmed and commissioned. Reckon if I had of got someone in to do it my $20K would have jumped to $40 or $50k. $20K the benefit is marginal, $40K no way.
