Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 24, 2016 11:02 am Hi Everyone, My husband and I are at a loss on what colours to use in our kitchen! We are both terrible at this stuff and have opposite tastes. I'm coastal he's industrial. I've visited My Chioce to get a jump on it but it hasn't helped as I find it imposible to visualise the finished product by looking at samples. If you could help by posting photos of your kitchen we would be so grateful!!! By some miracle we both like the Alpine Stone tile from National Tiles so will be using this colour for the floors. I know what you mean about different tastes and wishes, my wife and I also went through the painful process of coming to common agreement. In the end we went for scandy look Thanks! Will look at Houzz. Tracy Coral Homes - Modified Grange 23 My Thread: viewtopic.php?t=85959 I'm going for a Hamptons look which can sometimes be a mix of coastal and industrial (lights etc). We are doing the white subway tiles as a splash back and a marble island benchtop. Our colour scheme is here: https://waldorfgrangebuild.wordpress.co ... elections/ Re: Need help with Kitchen Design!!! 5Dec 24, 2016 6:16 pm For the kitchen keep it simple. White never goes out of style. You can always add accessories or light fittings for a bit of personality. We went for white cupboards and bench tops with a dark island bench. We have white cupboards and urban benchtops, which is a grey. You could do a similar thing but have a very light aqua/green/blue glass subway for the coastal look and some more industrial looking lights. This is want we currentlly have, our pendants are concrete and we have a glass splashback. Re: Need help with Kitchen Design!!! 10Dec 26, 2016 11:48 pm I have a floor tile very close to what you have chosen. We went with white so you can add colour and then a dark bench and walls to pop it out. They have crossover patterns like flowers etc raised, every time you look you find something new. We did the same in the bathroom but a grey version. Not cheap though - cost me $52 a tile - we also did the laundry but same as kitchen. I found the digital decorator website quite helpful. Our kitchen is a bit Scandinavian and a bit industrial too. You definitely can't go wrong with whites and neutrals in the kitchen... I would look at your tiles (which are gorgeous!!) and see what undertone it has and use that to base your decisions on your kitchen. For example: if it has a beige undertone then look for a natural earthy tones for your splashback and benchtop (such as caeserstone nougat) If the tiles have a grey undertone then possibly have a grey/charcoal bench top ( such as concrete look stone, if your style is modern and your pockets are deep ) Building in Springlake Mount Barker SA Re: Need help with Kitchen Design!!! 17Jan 01, 2017 9:50 am Tracyt DreamHome2point0 Hi, I had the same problem as you, it was so hard for me to imagine what our colours would actually look like in real life. Coral Homes - Modified Grange 23 My Thread: viewtopic.php?t=85959 You're welcome 😊 I did lots of googling, pinterest and houzz too. Good luck! Greys and silvers are both industrial and coastal, Pale grey cupboards, and white-ish bench tops are a good place to start. There are some round 'porthole' style pendants in brushed silver that also look both industrial and coastal. Pallete neutral, and bring colour in with knick knacks or barstools etc. Brushed silver antiqued/blackened knobs and pulls also cross both those style lines. look at cupboard profiles until you find something you both like. If you look at new england transitional kitchens, you're bound to find something you both love, nautical style industrial flavours are easy to inject with minimal fittings.
