Browse Forums Building A New House Re: My Masterton Build 2Mar 16, 2017 1:44 pm a79 I thought I'd share my (poor) experiences with Masterton Homes. I certainly hope we're a minority, but I'd like to hear other's thoughts from their experiences with building a new home, and in particular, building with Masterton Homes. We are now almost 18 months into a house build, and still going. Yes, 18 elapsed months! The site supervisor told us that the house would be completed 6 months ago. Then, we've heard precious little. For 6 months I've chased, asked questions, escalated, and gotten no real answers, but plenty of stress. Every month, we'd chase up the site supervisor (because he'd rarely call us). His standard response is that the house would be finished by the end of the month, then we'd hear nothing for weeks. To put things in perspective, we paid the lockup stage in July. Now its December. Thats 6 months of internal works, which the site supervisor said (at the beginning) would take 4-6 weeks. Of course, we've had preciously few updates from the Masterton. I've even escalated to their regional supervisor, who has not contacted me at all, for 2 weeks now. I'm a patient person, but after 6 months of this, it has stretched my patience. This last 2 months has been the worst. The more I ask questions, the less I get. No responses to phone calls or emails. No updates on what is happening to the house. Further to that, their accounts department sent me invoices requesting full payment, when the house is not complete. In the end, I had to contact NSW Fair Trading, and we had an agreed deadline with Masterton earlier this month, which they failed to meet. In summary, we've had overall one of the worst experiences I could've imagined, from a large player in the industry. Has anyone else experienced such behaviour from home builders? One of the reasons for going with a large project builder (and paying the premium that comes with it) was to avoid such hassles and headaches, and thinking that they know what they are doing. --- 11/2013 = Sketch Fee 02/2014 = Plan Fee 07/2014 = Contract Deposit 01/2015 = DA Approval 08/2015 = Building commenced 09/2015 = Slab 10/2015 = Frame 12/2015 = Brickwork 05/2016 = Roof Tiles 06/2016 = Lock Up ??? = Practical Completion (12/2016 and still waiting) ??? = Keys Omg someone else feels my pain.
