Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 22, 2016 11:24 pm Hi H1F, I am currently in the plan stage of a build in a greenfield estate. I'd be interested to know how my neighbours have planned their build as it would make me re-consider the usage of our rooms. Just wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to obtain plans where they were approved by a private certifier (i.e. went through CDC)? I've tried the local council but they are saying they don't have any plans. Thanks Re: Getting copies of neighbours plans 2Dec 22, 2016 11:41 pm sydneysider Hi H1F, I am currently in the plan stage of a build in a greenfield estate. Thanks Hi, Unfortunately you won't be able to get the plans as it would be a breach of privacy, as the plans contain everything including location of security systems and power. These unfortunately if it fell into the wrong hands could be dangerous. I guess it's like ASIO plans being leaked to a foreign government. However if you know who is building next to you maybe perhaps you can ask them what house they are building and that will give you an idea. If it's a CDC yes they won't have the plans but if it's not CDC compliant it will need to go to council for approval. I was more looking for the site and elevation plans more than the floor or electrical plans. I can access site and electrical plans through my local council website for DA-approved plans so thought that potentially this would be possible for CDC. Haven't met the neighbours yet unfortunately and it's all still empty land so hard to pass the message across too! Re: Getting copies of neighbours plans 4Dec 23, 2016 5:31 am Since your in an estate, could you ask the land sales agent to ask them to contact you? E.g. We did this so we could discuss fencing. As he couldn't give me their details he gave them mine and asked them to call me instead. ?? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=84756&p=1635132#p1635132 Re: Getting copies of neighbours plans 5Dec 23, 2016 7:37 pm wongbruce sydneysider Hi H1F, I am currently in the plan stage of a build in a greenfield estate. You should have just stopped at privacy... It's an example. I'm sure you wouldn't want to let people know the blue prints to your home for example placement of alarm sensors or manhole entrances. If you don't know currently in the Blacktown area there have been cases where people have entered the home not through the front door but through the roof. Privacy yes security no. No common garden variety burglar is going to pursue house plans for sensor locations or locations of man holes. If the low life's want to break in through the roof they will just get into the cavity and kick the ceiling in. They don't care. And if the house has an alarm box visible from the street they will move on. Most are not skilled enough nor have the time or desire to try and disable a security system. Far easier to move to the next house. And if a house has the Crown Jewels or other valuables or personal targets that would make it worthwhile they would have other means of getting the info they need anyway. it depends on the natural ground level, if they excavated their boundary wall needed to be built as a retaining wall.
