Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 21, 2016 10:08 am Hi All, We are doing a knock down rebuild in an old area in Melbourne's north west and are in the process of organising the underground power pit with Jemena. We specified we required 3 phase power for our future build. When the offer schedule came back it specified: 1. Maximum Allocated Capacity: Unless otherwise agreed in writing by us, your maximum allocated capacity will be the lesser of: (a) 40 amps per phase or (b)the rating of the smallest component of our distribution network used solely to supply electricity to your supply address. When I queried it, this response came back: "The pit is installed with the facility for 3 phase only. Your site currently only has one phase so your electrician will need to speak with Jemena's inspector who can advise him of what is available in your street." Can someone please explain to me in easy terms what this means? When the build starts am I going to have problems getting 3 phase with this pit or not?? Thank you! TotoYour site currently only has one phase so you electrician will need to speak with Jemena’s inspector who can advise him as of what is available in your street. Re: Underground Power Pit Query 3Dec 21, 2016 7:47 pm The first statement is basically stating that the available supply can provide up to 40 amps per phase (except where there are components upstream of your site that reduce that capacity. You will need to work out with your electrician just how much current you want to have on that 3 phase supply - typically it is 20, 32 or 40 amps. The second response is them asking you to get your electrician to contact the area inspector to verify the actual capacity is available in the street. The customer service office you are talking to probably don't have the authority to quote the available capacity as they are most likely not electricians and this sort of answer needs to be completed by someone with the experience and qualifications (also why they want it to be between your electrician and their inspector). Hi JW I just read your post and I find this situation quite strange.
