Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Hickinbotham Homes in SA 861Apr 27, 2013 11:55 pm I also think it's a great thread! We have signed our contract and are just awaiting Hickinbotham's sign off. Have no idea what the next steps are after that! I am having some second thoughts about the facade we have chosen (or lack thereof) and a few other changes (like maybe adding a bath to the ensuite). Does anyone know how final your choices need to be when you sign off in order to avoid fees to change your mind? Does anyone have suggestions for facade choices for a narrow, single storey, single garage? I am concerned the look we originally chose is going to date. And that's the last thing I want! I'm hoping to be in this house for at least the next 5 years. Anyone currently going through the process? We already know a lot of the selections we are going to go with. Would be nice to have an ideas sounding board, going through the same process! So behind. So disappointed and annoyed. Signed contract 27/3/2013 Early June 2013 - received signed contract (approx 2.5 months behind) 12/6/2013 master plans ordered 29/7/2013 prelim plan received Re: Hickinbotham Homes in SA 862Apr 28, 2013 8:53 am hello littlemisswantsitall, there are a few of us going through hickinbotham/statesman atm but this thread isnt really active anymore, we have our own threads most of us. there is myself, davelle, deluxes,_ lucinda, zub13, davcar. my apologies if i have missed some people. maybe start your own thread so we can follow it. most of us have our own that you can follow if you wish. if you have only just signed contracts you should be ok to change things still, if you want to change anything structually ie windows walls etc then do it now otherwise you will get charged if you do it later on. you are a few months off colour selections yet and you may change your mind once you get to the appt, we had a colour scheme in mind and changed it although we kept things like upgrades on oven/stove and taps. what suburb are you building and what house are you building? Re: Hickinbotham Homes in SA 863Apr 28, 2013 9:45 am Hi & welcome Littlemisswantsitall ! As Hachy mentioned, quite a few of us building with the same company (and in various stages) at the moment. If you have any structural changes, you'll need to get them in pretty quick to avoid your working drawings having to be done again... Aesthetic changes like colours, you can choose later at your colour appointment. It's an overwhelming process, even if you've done it before! So, welcome! This site is amazing for info and sharing experiences... I second hachy's question, where abouts are you building and what design did you go with? Our build has just been released to construction though nothing has happened yet. I think Hachy has covered most of it, We made a stack of changes after we signed and although it annoyed our sales guy it was no real issue. I know once you get your Master Plans it becomes more of an issue and they slug you $500. I think Deluxe and Hachy have said it but I would love to know more about your build. If your interested the link to our build is below if there is something I may be able to help with don't hesitate Cheers DavCar13 Re: Hickinbotham Homes in SA 865Jun 08, 2013 10:08 pm Hi guys! Thanks, I will follow your individual threads and start my own as well. We're building the Acacia Mk II in Beverley, SA on quite a narrow but long block. We have made a number of structural changes to the plan. It's practically unrecognisable now. I will upload the sketch we have so far. I signed the contract on 27 March 2013. Hickinbotham got back to us 2 weeks ago with a variation for a number of different things one being an increase in price for the portico we had originally chosen. We took this opportunity to change our mind on facade and are now REALLY happy with the front elevation we have! So I returned the signed variation on Thursday I think. Will be interesting to see how long it takes to get somewhere now. I can't believe it's taken them so long to consider our file! Our consultant assures us they are administrative delays only but I can't see them making our original time frames after taking nearly 2 months just to consider the file. How is everyone else tracking against original time frames? My partner, Chris, and I are building this home on a very strict budget because its our first home and we don't want to over-invest. We gather we'll spend the money on a number of key finishes and not get tied up emotionally in choices so we don't get tempted to overspend. We have made a number of very frugal choices so far in order to add value for very low capital investment. If you're interested in hearing more about how we're trying to keep costs down let me know. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has selected their kitchen cabinetry etc already. What do they give you as standard and what are some of the upgrades we may want to consider? We got the March promo so we already know we're having white high gloss cabinetry and stone bench tops (we'll probably just choose white for longevity) but we'd like nice big, handle-free doors if they're not too costly to upgrade to and also pot drawers etc. What did people do for a splashback? I'm not super keen on the small size tiles they offer as standard. Have considered glass splashback but have found many great larger size tiles I might like. Do they let you upgrade to larger size tiles? So behind. So disappointed and annoyed. In my blog do a search for 'colour selections' I think it was, I listed all the upgrade prices we paid for things. Pot drawers are totally worth it, also consider raising the height of your kitchen bench by 5cm. The paper work seems to drag by... but once they started building it was all done and dusted in 5 months. Re: Hickinbotham Homes in SA 867Jun 09, 2013 9:56 am Hi LittleMissWantsItAll, congratulations on starting to build your home. I'm with Hickies too. Quote: How is everyone else tracking against original time frames? Things happen relatively quickly if they are straightforward. If there are changes to the standard, then expect them to take longer. Quote: If you're interested in hearing more about how we're trying to keep costs down let me know. Would be great if you could share your strategies. Quote: We got the March promo so we already know we're having white high gloss cabinetry and stone bench tops I'm so jealous. They are costing me a fortune, no, make that a fivetune! What else was in the promo? All we had was a promo dishwasher and found out they won't even install it; it just comes in a box and we have to do the rest. The energy rating is below what I would expect too, so we've told them to keep it as it will cost us money to get someone to take it away. Quote: but we'd like nice big, handle-free doors They told me they will do handleless doors but they don't have any overhang so there is nothing to pull to open the doors and drawers. I imagined greasy fingerprints all over the gloss and decided on handles. Quote: and also pot drawers Yes, they do those. There are I think three different heights to choose from. They are a few hundred dollars each. I didn't write down individual costs, I'm sorry, but, for instance, I've asked for a tall unit with cupboard on top, microwave space in the middle, and three pot drawers below--this comes in at $948. A similar full-height unit with cupboard and drawers (i.e. no microwave) is $705. Quote: What did people do for a splashback? I'm not super keen on the small size tiles they offer as standard. Have considered glass splashback but have found many great larger size tiles I might like. I wanted glass from the outset, and had that included in my base price, but it was a PC item and once everything was drawn up the actual cost is way over the PC price. Quote: Do they let you upgrade to larger size tiles? Yes. Basically you need to choose tiles from Beaumonts. The only restrictions are that bathroom floor tiles must not exceed 333x333. There is also something that has to be signed in the variations regarding tolerances if rectified tiles are chosen. I think it might have been Zub who chose a lovely polished tile as a splashback. Re: Hickinbotham Homes in SA 868Jun 10, 2013 11:32 pm Hi LittleMissWantsitAll, Good to hear of your progress and how your design has come along Ill check out your new thread as well We are actually no longer building with Hickinb0tham, a few things we didn't see eye to eye on... and we wanted to do things they couldn't offer, a few variation cost issues... BUT nothing bad... Just creative differences! Lucinda has covered a lot of stuff and there are still plenty more people building with Hickies & Statesman who have a lot of info and experiences to share Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66299 Slab: 16/6/14 Frame: 4/7/14 Roof: 22/7/14 Lock Up: 20/8/14 Fixing: 26/8/14 PCI: 9/10/14 Handover: 20/10/14 Re: Hickinbotham Homes in SA 870Oct 24, 2016 2:16 am You should try going to a display home, or ring their reception and ask for a price list and the magazine of all the house plans. I think they had a pricelist that went with it, and that was for the standard inclusions. You can then contact a salesperson to make changes and get a quote Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: Hickinbotham Homes in SA 871Oct 24, 2016 10:58 am solidute Ok does anyone have a current price list for hickinbotham houses? Yeah, as MJT has said, give them a call and they can post it out to you Re: Hickinbotham Homes in SA 873Oct 24, 2016 7:13 pm solidute No worries. Am going to do it and have one on the way just wanted to get a headstart as being a shift worker and from the country its not so simple to pop in and ask. Cheers anyway Sorry I couldn't help further, I only have their magazine/brochure, I must have thrown the price list out Re: Hickinbotham Homes in SA 875Oct 24, 2016 9:09 pm Yeah I agree, I don't know why the prices aren't online. Hopefully it'll arrive quickly Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 47571 I would never build with Fowler homes.
