Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Homes by CMA - Ascot 260 181Jul 15, 2017 12:21 pm Wow those tiles are gorgeous!! Once your mirrors are in it will look fab!! So exciting Re: Building with Homes by CMA - Ascot 260 182Jul 18, 2017 5:36 pm So after a couple of emails to the "admin team" (I say this sarcastically cause I'm not sure what they actually do apart from p!ss people off!) I get up update on the plan for this week. This is definitely something they can do better. I'm sure the client liaison officer could actually liaise with their client and do this on a regular basis. So blinds and security screens are scheduled. So is carpet. They are also going to start on any reworks that are required - minor defects that require trade rectification - uneven tiling for one. I have also asked to be provided ample notice for when the pci is scheduled - not too much to ask, I think. They tell me they do but their idea of sufficient notice and mine seem to be on different ends on the scale. Surely people aren't that stupid that they realize other employers won't stand for their staff just doing whatever they like whenever they like at the drop of a hat. I start placement in 13 days for 6 weeks. I'm already skating on thin ice with my boss as this will be the final lot of my 11 weeks off this year.... and they know I'm quitting in 5 months time. It's a good thing I do my job well or they would have told me to bugger off a long time ago! Ugh, I'm ready for this building experience to be done now. It's time for my life to start being less complicated and to discover this "free time" stuff people talk about Building our forever home! I keep asking for a PCI date, actually been asking for months as technically I need to give 2 weeks notice to my boss. Thankfully work is being pretty reasonable and I can WFH... but its still crazy!! I could be moving in anytime in the next 15 days.. and I have no idea when it might be!! How can I book moving vans, arrange services.. etc?? A friend of mine got given a PCI date, when they said they couldn't make it, the property people were like "Well thats the only time"... insane. The service is so poor. Hopefully it works out for you! Building with Homes by CMA - Ascot 260 184Jul 21, 2017 2:41 pm So it's a good news day today! We got a phone call from the builders contracted landscaper who we have asked to do our street side and back retaining. They advise that our neighbour has contacted them and they will be doing that retaining as well!! Yay. So that's scheduled to begin 4/8 and will take the week to complete. Yay! We also had some movement at the house in the last couple of days. Security screens have been fitted but not pop riveted yet.... all except the laundry which we need to ask about. There was no mention of that not being done... And carpets have been done. G managed to go dumpster diving like the classy gent he is and save the carpet off cuts. This will hopefully go towards some entry mats and new carpet for the cat's scratching post. Oh nooooo! It was fab that he got to QC check our windows, bummer he wasn't able to with your screens too So exciting though, you can't be that far off completion... I mean in some respects you're ahead of me, so I will keep my fingers crossed that you get the golden phone call this week! Building with Homes by CMA - Ascot 260 187Jul 22, 2017 3:00 pm Week 14 of 18 Went past the house today to find someone there. Had the pleasure of meeting the other SS who was doing some fiddly bits around the house - door knobs, rails, etc. so he was kind enough to let us through. So I did the thing....I took my shoes and socks off to feel the carpet under my feet. Very happy with our selection. Not too much left to be done: - blinds - a/c fit off - rest of handles and rails - fencing and retaining - painting finalization - mirrors attached to walls - secure the screens - rangehood attached - minor plumbing - minor electrical - Clean - Clothesline and letterbox I think that's about it SS also mentioned that they are aware of these forums and do read them. I'm happy to hear that because they should know how the customer feels from their perspective. There are always 2 sides to every story and I think a great deal of things could be learned by using this feedback constructively. Building our forever home! If my builder had contacted me more I would have coped better woth te delays. Im a stresshead if im not in control. Sounds like your getting there So true Dawn! The unknown makes people think/become irrational! It's a scary and frightening process if you haven't built before and all I ask for is open and honest communication. I don't want someone to hold my hand and skip merrily along, I have my husband to do that with. I just want to be kept in the loop and have an open line of communication. It doesn't even have to be with the SS, there is an admin team that could easily do this. Communication seems to be lacking with many of the builds that Iv read and shared the journey with and I think that it's something that all builders could really do better. And it would make them stand out among the rest. Our actual build hasn't been that bad, but the dealings with the admin team and the radio silence between admin and build was definitely a sore point. You should have that relationship with someone where you can say something without fear of feeling patronized or having your intelligence questioned. And I know we are all human and make mistakes, but own your mistake. Acknowledge, apologies and tell me what your going to do to fix it. CMA make a great product and their idea of "what you see is what you get" is a fantastic concept. They just need to work with their people to put them above the others and treating the customers properly and openly is how I think they could get there. Rant over Building our forever home! Everything about my build has been great except the delays, and the lack of communication/expectation setting around those delays. If they had been honest I could have handled it better, and I could have made better choices about things which would have made me less crazy. Though I did try very hard not to be a crazy person to my builder and I never lost my temper. I know its just a job to them, but its the world to me. Re: Building with Homes by CMA - Ascot 260 191Jul 24, 2017 1:46 pm I agree with everything you ladies have said. Was the other SS's name beginning with an A? If so, he is mine and he is lovely. I feel terrible I had to get cranky about the tiler/secretiveness with him, but I do think the site supervisors are being put under way too much pressure - CMA need to know they are getting much busier and more popular and need to accommodate for that. I agree, my CMA build, up until about 3 weeks ago was plain sailing, no errors, great communication (to an extent) and things were getting done quickly. If it wasn't for them not admitting their mistakes, communicating more and being honest with costumers, I think it would be fine. Like I complained the niches in the bathrooms were the wrong size as the salesman said they were a tile big now, and I guess nobody else picked that up, so instead of admitting their mistake, they kept coming up with excuses, which made me irrational and stressed which made the matter worse. Turns out they have fixed the errors, so therefore it was wrong in the first place. I guess with CMA, instead of making the customer feel bad or in the wrong, if they were honest, it would be a much more enjoyable experience. We all make mistakes after all! ps. My bench top has been chipped and has been hidden/covered up by glue. But its very very obvious. Re: Building with Homes by CMA - Ascot 260 192Jul 24, 2017 3:50 pm maddielouxx I agree with everything you ladies have said. Was the other SS's name beginning with an A?. Yep, it was your SS. That's how the discussion about forums came up. He said to us to "trust the process". That's all good and well. I have faith they know what they are doing. But we are all human and mistakes are made. Not to mention, when you do enough of the same "kit" homes, things become robotic. And trusting the process when you don't know the process, I liken to being blindfolded and told to jump. To me, trust must be earned and I'd like to follow blindly but it's just not me. I'm not made of money so I value seeing my hard earned money being put to good use. I'm positive everything will come together in the end. It's just getting to the end that's an emotional adventure into the unknown. We just have to remind ourselves that the home goes through so many checks before it's handed over so if there are things that get through, it's almost certain that someone has already put it on the list to be rectified. Not long now though! The one time I didn't raise something, turned out my builder HAS missed it and took 5 weeks to get it completed ;-; my biggest fear was not raising something early would lead to delays, as every month the build went over cost me $1800. We went over by 6 months.. a few of the things I'd wished I'd raised sooner.. even at my PCI finally raised that the end panel in the laundry had been oversprayed... two weeks for a replacement panel ;-; Building with Homes by CMA - Ascot 260 194Jul 25, 2017 8:26 pm I am loving this pic I snapped on the weekend showcasing our colour choices coming together Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And blinds were done too Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Not sure if anything else happened cause G couldn't see through the windows. I only have carpets, laminate and oven/microwave/dish washer left to go - (also my front door needs to be stained, but I have noticed a huge chip in it, so will probably asked for it to be replaced anyway). Railings in, blinds, screens, door stopper things, mirrors, etc.. all done last week. But it's funny because I still haven't heard about a proposed inspection date. Our original proposed date was supposed to be today . I'm sure the hold up is because of the delay in retaining and fencing but that's only a guess cause there hasn't been much communication. That's scheduled for 4-11 August though so within the next 2 weeks I would like to hope everything is finalized. The biggest job is the painting.. I can't see the air con being that huge cause all the rough in is done. But I'm not sure exactly what's involved Building our forever home! Because I'm on placement now for 6 weeks, I arranged all the utilities last week. Little did I realize that the router I arranged through the NBN provider would be shipped so soon! So it was being delivered to a house with no letterbox or tenants! Took the puppy for a drive and try my luck because parcel tracking said it was being delivered today. Someone was there with the gurney cleaning the patio, portico and driveway. He hadn't seen the postman. Went for a stickybeak through the windows and our rangehood had been fitted (I forgot to see if it was vented to outside though) and our missing aircon duct was fitted. Still missing some doorhandles and the painters hadn't been yet. When I was heading back to the car, the post man drove up the street. So I waved him down like a madman and did my parcel exchange in the middle of the street! Perfect timing! Still haven't heard from builder on what's next or when pci is planned. Retaining is due to commence Friday. Very happy to hear the neighbours have chosen concrete retaining as well. One less thing to worry about in 10-15years time! Looking forward to seeing that go up. Might finally deter jerks from using our backyard as a thoroughfare to drive through! It's not my fault people bought tiny pokey blocks you can't easily access from the street Building our forever home! It all seems to be going as well as it can be (considering the communication issues). Yay for catching that postman! What internet provider have you gone with? Could I ask you ladies and anyone else building with CMA, have you noticed the weird skirting board issue? Ripping them off and putting them back on again? Mine are awful, wish I could upload pictures really to show you. All of the paint is bubbled and ripped too. I have been given my inspection date and I am absolutely gutted, considering that my house is 'finished' (just painting fix up and errors to be fixed) because it is not until the 22nd of August!! The 22nd - that's 3 weeks away? What on earth are they going to be doing in those 3 weeks? Makes me wonder. Have you heard about yours yet? (since posting your last past?) Above all, I am not pleased at all with the organisation of CMA. Salesman - lovely, SS- lovely organisation - terrible (maybe being a teacher I am extra organised but still, it's common sense). I am looking at September handover which is super sad considering salesman said early August and my house has no landscaping so should have been a lot quicker. SS even told me that inspection could be possible for week 5 of the school term and it is week 5 next week. Why they get your hopes up and then booked things later bewilders me. Good luck on your placement! Keep us updated. Re: Building with Homes by CMA - Ascot 260 199Aug 03, 2017 2:39 pm maddielouxx That is fantastic! The contracted pci date is 25/8 though and everything but painting ~looks~ done, so I'm certain it shouldn't take til 25 to get an appointment. Husband has sent SS a text today asking for some kind of communication. The fencing and retaining starts tomorrow (yay!) As for your skirting. Seems very strange it has been removed. Once ours was down, that was it. There has to be a reason and if you asked them straight out, they should tell you the truth. ~should~. Have you considered a private building inspector? We decided to sign up with Skymesh. Just a smaller company but if we decide we don't like them, we are only locked in 30 days and then can change plus upgrade and downgrade without penalty. Don't settle for anything less that A standard. Yes people can make errors but we are paying for a brand new house so we should expect brand new quality Building our forever home!
