Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 03, 2016 5:11 pm Hello Everyone, I moved into my home about 2 months ago now. I am yet to start the project for my backyard (if you can call it that). I have have contacted landscapers via sms, email, approached them while working but none of them want to take the job on, some have been honest enough to say its not worth their time because the job is so small. Having said that, I understand - the backyard is on 4m(L)x12.5 (W) Now looks like myself and hopefully my partner will need to get our hands dirty. Now we are stuck already at step 1 lol. Levelling the land. We have a brief idea of what we'd like to do and i will share. The questions I have is A - what do I use to fill the gap between the fence ending and the land? Woodplank etc? B - What soil do I buy to add on top of my current one when levelling out, if soil at all? Crushed rock perhaps? C - how deep should then step when walking out of the back door be. Im sure I will have plenty of questions more but hopefully this is a start. Thanks for taking the time out of your day to assist guys, its really appreciated. P.S is anyone aware if I can add pictures? Regards Raul Re: Land Leveling/ Landscaping new house 2Dec 03, 2016 6:04 pm Raul are you using the tapatalk app? Really easy to add photos if so.. Re: Land Leveling/ Landscaping new house 3Dec 03, 2016 6:12 pm You can upload pictures to H1 directly, should be a button (you might need to click on the Full Editor button first when adding a post). If your using a mobile.. no idea, but someone else here will be able to help Good luck with your landscaping, I'm not much help My backyard is also small 10.5x4.5m. I was quoted 15k to landscape the front and back yard .. with no plans/design just based on the size alone.. which I thought was too high. My dad and I have come up with a landscape plan, very very basic!! (I did mine on paint), you can see it on my thread. Basically have asked my builder to concrete the 3 sides of my house (both sides, and 1.5m from the back of the house). Then my dad is going to pave over the concrete later on when I have more money. Then we are going to lay turf, and lastly I'm going to plant some scented pearl trees along the back fence. Some of the garden centers will help you with landscaping and yard design, some aren't too expensive either (if you just want a plan). I must admit, no idea about leveling, hoping my builder will leave my land quite flat when they do the final site clean. All the best!! P.S is anyone aware if I can add pictures? Regards Raul I did my small front yard with the help of my partner and his brother with alot of blood, sweat and tears. Its a small front yard too and I've had to spend many a weekend since It was finished to get it up to developer standards to get my bond back. I've been in my house for 3 months. I haven't had my back yard and side yard done yet but will do that early next year. Rather than going through the pain of doing it myself again, I found someone on gumtree willing to do it at $35 per hour, estimating about 20 hours all up, or a might bring in a small bobcat to reduce hours. I will provide the soil and turf as I can source this myself cheaper than he can. My backyard is 13.5 x 2 and my side yard is 18 x 2. I just used trade organic under turf for my front and will use that again. My buffalo has flourished so well and no need for fertiliser. I'll also be using approximately 10 timber sleepers to go in front of the fence. As for amount of fill it depends on high high or low your house is. I'll be getting in soil for .25 fill. Doing it all yourself - the levelling of the fill was the hardest bit as I have a slight slope in my front. Good luck!!
