Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 25, 2016 6:37 pm Hi everyone! I have been silently stalking this forum for many many years, and very excited to finally be able to share my own build journey. We are building in the leafy new development of Springlake in Mt Barker, on a modest block of 10m x 32m. Springlake was chosen immediately after seeing the huge impressive lake entrance to the estate, it is just gorgeous! It looks pretty average on paper, but has a really nice feel to it in person especially in the kitchen living area. I have added: - A kitchen window splashback - Swapped the bay window near Dining to square set (ended up being a credit!) - Added a shower niche to the ensuite - Added an extra $3k electrical allowance for downlights to living areas & owner supplied pendants We were also very lucky to score many free promo items thrown in, which has helped keep costs down substantially - Free Ducted Air Conditioning ($1500 upgrade to reverse, well worth it!) - Free upgrade to 2.7m ceilings - Free upgrade to 90cm wide stainless steel appliances - Free retractable rangehood - Free silk gloss kitchen upgrade to cupboards - Semi frameless showers - 2m high tiling to bathroom/ensuite (so excited about this!) - Upgraded tapwear, floor grates, toilets, shower rails etc - Smart glass (anyone know what this is?) The Sales Rep Wayde has been fantastic so far, so definitely good vibes for this build! We went with Jeff through Fairnont and he was lovely. Wayde seems to be a protege of his father, so that leaves you in pretty good stead. We also liked the sicily plan but went slightly different in the end. Look forward to seeing your build. Have fun Actually looking at some of your mood boards and plans and we have a lot in common Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: Luxe on a Budget / Fairmont Homes Mt Barker SA 7Dec 05, 2016 11:14 am Hi! We are looking to build with Fairmont too. Your plan looks simple but classy and I love your vision boards! I was just wondering what your build costs came back in at? We are getting quotes at the moment for various builders (Fairmont is Wednesday night) and our house is a little bigger with a 4th bedroom and extra living area.. hoping we can afford what we want! Thank you Can't wait to follow your build! Re: Luxe on a Budget / Fairmont Homes Mt Barker SA 8Dec 05, 2016 8:35 pm MJT Hey good luck with your build. Thank you Can't wait to follow your build! Hey Kelwos44, Thank you for the kind words We are building in the hills so the land is cheaper but the build is more expensive - about 10k in extras. We haven't had selections yet and the contract is currently sitting at $154k, which includes 6k allowance at selections/electrical. (Flooring is being done after handover) In all honesty Ive been researching this project for a long time, with countless spreadsheets and quotes from other builders, so Im 100% confident I have a good deal with Fairmont. The only negative I would say is that their Display Homes are a bit beigey and suited for an older crowd, so its hard to imagine a modern style house being built. The newer display centres seemed much more up to date and not so beigy. The lightsview ones could be described with that one word....haha Re: Luxe on a Budget / Fairmont Homes Mt Barker SA 11Dec 07, 2016 10:11 am My parents have built three times with Fairmont and just upgrade everything to produce a really beautiful properties, so I am just ignoring all the negative reviews and boring displays hehe. That's good to know! We haven't actually been to Plympton displays yet. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks we will get there to show my partner things he can't visualise. Re: Luxe on a Budget / Investment Property / Mt Barker SA 12Mar 17, 2017 5:21 pm Sooo my land has been delayed, then delayed again, then brought forward lol. Its now looking like Settlement at the end of July. Does anyone know if Fairmont usually stick to their contract days to build? If Im going by the 100 days in my contract, divided by 5 working days in a week, then it will juuuust be done by Christmas. Do builders often finish small homes before the contract date? How are you enjoying your build and preparing so far? Your mood boards look great! We're building with Simonds and are...very very hopeful if we get in before the end of the year. Highly unlikely though. Will be watching your build as a fellow Springlake-r! Re: Luxe on a Budget / Investment Property / Mt Barker SA 14Mar 31, 2017 3:12 pm Great to see a Mt Barker build on here! We built with Metricon a few years ago in another mt barker estate and are building again this year Springlake is beautiful! will look out for your build progress! I cant figure out our delay as when I visited on Australia Day my block was already marked out, but no roads kerbs etc until recently. Im thinking they may need to sell the whole street first? I looove Simonds homes, do you have a thread yet? We were lucky that they'd gotten the confirmation of land titles (part of what was our delays from November when we first contacted to our signing land contract in Feb) the week before our contract signing with them. Possibly they haven't had the land titles confirmed by state yet if you're in the newest release? No build thread yet but I'll probably put one up as soon as we get our energy report and date set for signing! We're definitely enjoying the experience so far and hope that we don't have to wait too long in council (If you're following the Springlake FB you'll probably see our photo in the next day or two!) Will you be building at the same time? Yes we are just waiting on our last council approval at the moment and our final energy report and then we will be good to go! We've owned our land for over a year so luckily don't have to wait for roads etc (we got burnt a few years ago buying in a new estate and jumped at the chance when a big block came up in our old estate as we have friends etc there already) Current Build with Gall3ry Living https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87680 First Build Thread : Our Mt Barker Build @ The Grove Re: Luxe on a Budget / Investment Property / Mt Barker SA 19Apr 04, 2017 10:29 pm HFBMPC JM1911A1 Hi HFBMPC My partner and I just settled (Monday!!!) on our block in Springlakes - was there any specific reason for your delay, as this seemed to go really quickly for us with them.
