I wanted to ask if you know if they put noggins behind your towel rails etc that are on tiled walls? I know you had a lot of trouble with loose fixtures. They put some behind all of ours except for one. I pointed out that one had been missed and was told it was fine because the studs are spaced only 300 in the shower. When i said that they aren't in the right spot to centre the rail he said that it's fine because it's on tile, they'll just use plaster plugs. Didn't help that my hubby stood there and agreed with him. All I could think about was all the trouble you had. I've probably missed my chance to sneak some in myself now unless our plaster is pushed back again due to the pier flashing being unresolved. Re: Building Lexington 240 123Jul 05, 2017 1:13 pm Well good question. Yes they put noggins in everywhere. Problem was though, the drop kick who installed all the bathroom fittings across 3 bathrooms was here-and-there about whether he bothered to lookup the location of the noggins or not. He had to drill through tiles to get to the noggin and when you drill through a tile it usually collapses the rear of the tile in the process, if that makes sense. So you only get 1 shot at drilling and you can't have 2 screws close together less the whole tile disintegrates. A lot of our fittings can take 2 screws in the one "spot" but only have 1 screw for this reason. We have them, for what i can tell, for the 4 double towel rails. For the 2 show shelf's, they missed the noggin when drilling holes and they are held on with hollow wall spring toggles. For the 3 toilet roll holders, 2 missed, 1 found the noggin. It was the ones where we had wall tiles that missed. For the one in the noggin the screw was too small and i replaced it anyway. For the 3 hand towels, 2 missed, 1 found the noggin, again it was the ones that had wall tiles that missed. For the one in the noggin the screw was too small and i replaced it anyway. Just about all our fittings were all loose at inspection. I asked for them to be tightened before handover and they weren't or weren't done properly. I had Kings come back early on and tighten them. They included sikaflex this time which did nothing. I ended up taking all the loose ones off and using star washers to create friction and loctite to hold the screw in place. A few months later they seem to be holding up OK. I am sorry but i doubt a wall plug will hold a big wet towel on a towel rail. Thinking of the turning moment as the weight of the towel hangs out from the wall and levers itself off. The spring toggles i have would help in this case because the spring flaps open up behind both plaster and tile and the only way its coming out is if it brings plaster and tile with it. Also you can sneak in our own nogging but unless the installer knows its there and drills in the right place (and gets the centre of the noggin) it won't help you much. Exactly what I thought, it would increase my chances but no guarantees, especially when they don't know it's there. I don't think I will get anywhere asking them to do it again though. I will be seeing the construction manager at the flashing meeting Friday, but doubt I'll have an opportunity to bring it up and it would be going over the SS head in front of him.
