Maybe someone else in the estate will have a few bricks left over for your letter box . Leaving you with 3 bricks is a bit rough. I bet they've moved them on to another job, or returned them like you say. Maybe ask your supervisor nicely if they are using them anywhere else and if it would be possible to get some more spares from any leftovers.
We tried that tact, but the SS is as stubborn as an ox and doesn't give much away. To his credit he seems quite thorough and has good trades. And honestly after reading what surtees went through I was glad the brick were just laid and cleaned properly.
For the letterbox we are now thinking this instead of bricks:

It's called the "Portland Sleeper" from milkcan.com.au.
It's $359 unstained - which is absolute top dollar for a letterbox in this day and age when everything is going to email. But I'm a brick letterbox is about the same when you add in labour and the footing and so on.
That said we should be able to match the stain on this sleeper letterbox to the stain on the feature cladding of the facade for a nice effect.
