Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 21, 2016 4:50 pm Hi everyone, I would love to hear everyone's opinions on clear glass v's frosted in your bathrooms and ensuites. I choose clear as mine are big awning windows (abit of a feature). What did everyone else choose and why? Also if you got normal glass what kind of blind have you/ are you putting on your bathroom/ensuite windows? Please share your photos Re: Bathrooms clear v's frosted windows 2Nov 21, 2016 5:28 pm I wanted clear after seeing all the display homes, but for practical reasons chose obscure in my en suite and also raised it, so its a high, short, long window and obscured. I'm not planning to put any dressing on it, which I prefer because in bathrooms some of those window dressings can get a bit gross (we have curtains in our current bathroom). I was planning clear glass in the main bathroom with some plantation shutters, but they've put in obscure glass by mistake.. after seeing that the window is directly across from the neighbors bedroom window I've decided to just go with it.. I may or may not still put shutters in there. I kind of wish I'd gone with a bigger window in the main bathroom, especially now the glass is obscured, but.. oh well, it might look better once the bathroom is completed. I'm not sure that I like obscure glass, I was actually thinking translucent, but I'm sure it will be fine. Our builder added it to our tender "by default" but I've asked for it to be deleted. I'm planning a plantation shutter on our en suite awning window. Not sure about our main bathroom window yet, it's a highline privacy window on 2nd storey anyway and so I'm thinking we might be ok to leave it without a dressing. If not it will get a plantation shutter too. They're probably going to be the only windows that I put plantation shutters on. I like the idea that they can be wiped clean. We have vertical blinds on our bathroom window in our rental that flap around in the breeze and really annoy me as we like to keep the window open all year round. Re: Bathrooms clear v's frosted windows 5Nov 21, 2016 9:53 pm I prefer the look of clear but when we decided to build this house i said practical first pretty second- The thought of blinds etc in a bathroom makes me cringe lol On the other hand everytime my husband sees the window he regrets it Not the best pic but you get the idea! It's a hard choice! Mon445 that's the same reason I picked my big awning window to do the same. We wont use that bathroom very often at all as it's just the two of us so I thought later down the track I can get something put on the window. As for the ensuite I thought I'd now change to translucent glass so I don't have to put a blind on it. Re: Bathrooms clear v's frosted windows 9Nov 22, 2016 12:25 pm I really think it depends on what's on the outside of the window. We are on a residential rural block and our ensuite double hung are clear but our main bath and toilet are white translucent because we'll have tanks outside of those. So no point being clear Re: Bathrooms clear v's frosted windows 10Nov 22, 2016 1:15 pm Cost effective wise frost. Plantation shutters can be quite expensive and unnecessary as it's only bathroom. Save the cost and make other areas of the home look better. The en suite, I didn't want to have to worry about it... and it's an awkward window to put dressing on... the main bathroom I had grand visions of greenery out the window.. but the reality is there's little to no space on that side of the house and the neighbors window is very close.. so glad it is obscured now. Re: Bathrooms clear v's frosted windows 12Nov 22, 2016 6:43 pm We've chosen obscure for privacy even though on top floor, you never know who can see through. Currently no plans for blinds. Will wait til build is done to determine if blinds are needed, if so, would only be if sun is too strong as bathroom has big window. Went clear in our place as I like to see out windows. For privacy just using blinds. You then have the choice of view or covered. With obscured glass you cannot un-obscure it. Re: Bathrooms clear v's frosted windows 15Nov 24, 2016 8:34 pm We went clear as ours face the street, curb appeal would have been awful if they werent clear. Have blinds and sheers so i can have blinds open during the day and still have privacy and the sheers give a nice romantic feel to the ensuite. Build thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81011 Depends...
