Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 12, 2016 3:25 am Hello all. Long-time lurker of H1 forums here. Over the last few years I've found these forums extremely helpful in garnering information leading up to our dream home build. So just wanted to say a quick thankyou for that.
After many years of research and many meetings with various builders, we decided to build our dream home with Metricon. We chose the Savannah 34 as it was the closest plan in stock form to what we imagined our dream home to be, and would work with our narrow block. Since Metricon don't have many internal pictures of the Savannah 34 on their website, and since we couldn't find anything on the www to help us envision what the Savannah 34 would look like upon completion, we decided to share our build here on the H1 forums. Hopefully it might provide some insight for anybody considering the Metricon Savannah 34. So here's our Ground Floor Plan: 1st Floor Plan: External Colour Scheme: Front Facade which faces North: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Rear of house which faces South: East-facing side of house: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ West-facing side of house: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Building our Metricon Savannah 34. 2Nov 12, 2016 4:14 am Here's our tiny single storey home partly demolished already.
We went with Site Demolition to demolish our existing home. We found them to be a reputable company and a pleasure to work with. You said your block is narrow, like how narrow are we about? What's the width and length. Thanks for letting us in in your journey buildingourhumblehome.blogspot.com.au Re: Metricon Savannah 34 - Building in Sydney. 4Nov 12, 2016 7:43 am tapasr_Lexia4 Looking forward to see your journey firejack018 and thanks for that accompanying pics. You said your block is narrow, like how narrow are we about? What's the width and length. Thanks for letting us in in your journey Hey there, cheers! Our block has a 12.39m frontage and a depth of 34m. We had to cut the double garage of the Savannah 34 down to something like an oversize single garage to ensure that the house would fit on our block. We also had Council inform us that we would require a 9m setback due to our block being located on a busy road. So we had to make some other changes to ensure it would all work out. Ours is almost the same. We're building in this new estate in the south west of Sydney called Hillcroft. We have a 13 width by 31 length lot (believe me in Sydney the land are getting smaller and smaller yet the price is getting higher and higher) We managed to get a double garage, 4 bdr 1 theatre room with terraza. We're building with Beechwood Homes. The price just keeps going higher and higher. And so many high-density units going up all over the place. Very crazy. This white-on-white color scheme should contrast nicely with our dark wood-look tiles we have chosen for the downstairs flooring. Hopefully our kitchen color scheme will appear something like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Metricon Savannah 34 - Building in Sydney. 9Nov 13, 2016 6:02 am firejack018 Here's the 3D representation of how our Kitchen Cabinetry will look. The wall immediately behind the kitchen cabinetry is Lexicon White. The Family Room is Timeless Gray. The Dining Room is Timeless Gray with one feature wall of Lexicon White. They were walking around on the concrete by the afternoon with the grinders. And then late in the evening we had some very light rain/drizzle. Will be keen to see how thing progress. Re: Metricon Savannah 34 build 17Nov 16, 2016 10:33 pm Nice Firejack! I'm following your post and am also building with M in Sydney. We're building a Newhaven 36. Love your floor plan, especially the spa in the ensuite and the 2nd ensuite for one of the rear bedrooms. The staircase looks great too as does the larger island bench. Re kitchen, we've also chosen Osprey with 2pack poly in vivid white. Our wall colours are Limed White and Natural white for Ceilings, architraves and skirtings. Flooring we're installing Spotted gum hardwood on ground floor and carpet upstairs. Congrats on your slab! Did you get the SMS invoice message from M ? I swear it's almost as though the second the last drop of concrete comes out of the pump, they send the invoice. Very slick I must say. Keep the updates coming, your house is going to look amazing between the two Federation homes. We met our Site Supervisor on Friday morning and he thinks there's a fairly high likelihood that we will have the frame up before the Xmas break. Fingers crossed. Love your floor plan, especially the spa in the ensuite and the 2nd ensuite for one of the rear bedrooms. The staircase looks great too as does the larger island bench. Awesome. Do you have a build thread on here? Yeah we just had to spoil ourselves with a spa bath. Can't wait to relax in that thing after a tough match of tennis or a long 24 hour shift at work. And also couldn't resist spoiling my little girl with her own bathroom. I remember growing up sharing a bathroom with a brother and sister and it was horrid. Actually we only had the one bathroom in the house so our whole family shared. Urgh! nomnomnom Re kitchen, we've also chosen Osprey with 2pack poly in vivid white. Our wall colours are Limed White and Natural white for Ceilings, architraves and skirtings. Flooring we're installing Spotted gum hardwood on ground floor and carpet upstairs. Nice choice! Would love to see pics of your build, especially when it's done. The spotted gum hardwood floor sounds tasty! I'm actually kind of regretting not moving up the Caeserstone category chain to choose something more sterile white to blend in seamlessly with the cabinetry. But anyway, we shall see how the Osprey works out. It looked like we could get away with it judging by the samples. nomnomnom Congrats on your slab! Did you get the SMS invoice message from M ? I swear it's almost as though the second the last drop of concrete comes out of the pump, they send the invoice. Very slick I must say. Keep the updates coming, your house is going to look amazing between the two Federation homes. Haha nope. They poured the concrete on the Monday, and then we had our independent inspector go inspect the work on the Thursday, and then we met our Site Supervisor on Friday morning before the invoice came through late Friday afternoon. There is one small issue with the two rebates for the rear stacker doors that lead into the outdoor alfresco room (should be 40mm deep but only came out 25mm deep - and one is 15mm short of plan dimensions), so we don't want to process the slab payment yet until those are sorted. Our awesome Site Supervisor is going to look into it on Monday. I'll have to give the finance department a call to stop the payment clock to avoid getting stung with late payment fees too.
