Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 23, 2016 10:56 pm We built our home with AHB Aus via My Complete Package - a house and land package in Derrimut VIC. Before all that we went to their display home and saw a hairline crack in the wall which we queried about and was told it was due to the land being reactive and therefore the house moved. That should have been a warning for us but we were desperate to have a place of our own and it since was only a small crack so we went ahead with the builder. It was an affordable land and house package. But wow, what a big mistake. Our house is now just a little over 2 years old but now we have hairline cracks in wall through out the house - several cracks in the kitchen/living area and in 2 out of 4 bedrooms. Not only that we also have issues with the cornice - gaps are starting to appear between the wall and ceiling throughout the house as well. So I contacted AHB and they sent a guy out to have a look. After checking the guy said it was due to somewhat unsual hot and cold weather we've had over the last year or so and the land moved because it contracted and expanded over a period of time. I told him we have a friend who built his house the same year as us and yet he doesn't have any of these issues. He said unless the crack is over 1mm wide it's not considered to be a defect and therefore they won't fix it. I'm really disappointed with AHB Australia, I mean my parents house is over 15 years old and they don't even experience these problems with their house. I would stay well clear of this mob. Re: AHB Australia & My Complete Package 2Sep 18, 2018 8:05 pm Hi pbui03, Wanted to know how you go with the contract with them. I know you did build a house in 2016 with them? Or is it 2014? Had a quote with them for 4 bedroom house in Diggers Rest via New Home Direct. Just wanted to know if we are making a right decision. Thank you. Re: AHB Australia & My Complete Package 3Nov 12, 2020 6:31 pm AHB have built thousands of homes. Like all builders most other their happy customers can not be bothered posting reviews. So as always you only get to hear what people think are horror stories. I grew up in Dubbo in NSW summer winter changes in temp can make ground movement crack wide enough to loose your car keys in if you drop them in so land movement is very common. I lived in a some that had the ground move fo much the garage started to separate away from the house. We waited a few more years and the land stabilized and you could then put your hand through the gp. Then the builder came and fixed it. At no charge. The builder doesn't want to do a repair if the land hasn't stabilized yet. So if the customer wants to complain it should not be about the build quality but about the lack of proper explanation from the sales agent. If you don't want to annoy the neighbours then simply get yourself some good head phones. For me the sound is much better using headphones.
