Opps indeed!! What colour is your grout Mrs.Doe? Hope I've picked the right one for the Belga grey tile!!! Looks brilliant!

I checked and it was #77 grout Ezza, it was the colour that the girl at Crosby tiles pointed out in the larger display of the belga grey tiles to use to get a seamless look.

I don't think so! Assuming it was one of the air con guys putting in the ducting because only the tiler and garage door installer have been out this week so nobody else would've gone in the roof. Maybe that's why the guy I saw out the front looked in such a filthy mood given his two work mates were friendly and chatty

Shower looks great. Wish I'd thought of adding a niche.

Shame about the manhole but should be a quick easy fix at least.

Thanks Bob, I absolutely love it and so worth the money! We didn't get one in the downstairs bathroom for our daughter, instead they're going to be putting a built-in glass shelf in that shower. So much better than having to replace shower caddys every six months when they start to get ratty!

Thanks for checking, we are building with Arden and they use Beaumont tiles so different grout numbers. Hopes it's similar to yours as u really have achieved the seamless look!

Stopped by this morning and managed to get inside

Upper cabinet doors haven't been changed to the four evenly sized doors or the correct doors, drawers and panels installed to the island yet but they've made some progress in the kitchen. Wall cabinetry doors installed, rangehood and stove are in and downlights to the overhead cabinets.

Shower roses and tapeware installed but need to contact them on Monday morning because both bathtub and shower mixers are correct but they've installed the wrong mixers to the laundry and al three bathroom basins? Don't even understand how that happens!

Totally over the moon with how good those tiled floor wastes look!

They've also installed shelving to the WIR, ducted air con and the HWS but need to re-run some electrical in the garage which wasn't as per plans (had been run in exposed conduits instead of in the wall and spaced too far apart so it would be really difficult for Mr Doe to install the NBN box). Crooked cornice has been removed in the kitchen but none of the uneven ceiling cut out yet so not sure what's going on with that right now. All up pretty busy and plenty getting done with some niggling issues.

Feeling frustrated, dropped back past with Mr Doe to have a closer look after I stopped to take photos and picked up several issues. The electrician has been massively sloppy in installing the GPO's and light switches upstairs, instead of using a saw on the plasterboard it looks like he's just smashed through and there's holes around virtually every electrical fitting which will need to be fixed. Not anything major but just more time to fix things that should be done properly the first time. In the downstairs bathroom he's installed a dark grey light switch instead of white and then installed a light switch instead of a GPO in the backsplash? Mr Doe had already been going back and forward with them over the electrical in the garage being run not as per plans and being unsuitable for him to install the NBN box post-handover and they first tried saying that we could pay to change it (echoing their original sentiment on our kitchen overhead cabinets) then agreeing they would fix it. The electrician has been by far the worst trade on our job, we've had very few issues outside of the errors in the kitchen but the work from the electrician really sucks. Not the best idea to use a lax electrician when the owner is an electrician themselves! But that's more time to fix up the garage electrical and the garage ceiling can't be finished and closed up until it's fixed so that feels like it's going to delay everything more.

Biggest issue is that the ducting for the air con is supposed to run from the LHS of the store room behind the WIR along the wall and be boxed out so it's as unobstructive as possible but the air con installers have run it straight through the middle of the floor cutting off access to half the store room and they've cut a big hole in the floor to run cabling through, it's completely ridiculous

How annoying
You wonder what goes through people's heads when they do this stuff, a lot of it is blatant common sense and easily avoidable! I hope you get these rectified soon and the rest goes smoothly, but it hasn't been a very good run lately

Geez mrsdoe that's not good to hear at all. I can't believe their response in telling you they can fix their errors if you pay for it.

We are building through a Ventura subsidiary and the few minor issues we've had they've been quick to put their hands up and say it would be fixed and they have sorted it within a couple of days. I haven't had a close look at the electrical yet but I'm also not a sparky so hoping our inspector doesn't find any nasty surprises but it all looks ok.

I hope they get a new sparky to come in and takeover from the one you have had working on your place already.
That sucks! So completely annoying seeing such **, careless work. They better fix it all pronto!!

WOW mrsdoe its looking great! That kitchen is to die for!!
I am loving those cabinets!
Thanks guys, the ducting and electrical just seems to be total laziness on the part of the trades plus lack of common sense like you said Dave!

Mr Doe has been onto them today and we're waiting on a response about the ducting but they have said it doesn't look right, no joke this is what it looks like at present:

The garage electrical is being sorted though and looks much better than all the three exposed conduits which were spread across the wall before.

The kitchen ceiling has been cut out to be sorted out so hopefully that'll be finished soon.

The incorrect taps are going to be changed, they are apparently having another meeting with the electrician on-site tomorrow to discuss the issues with his work and in more exciting news we now have an oven which is huuuuuge and looks fantastic

Thanks Bob, now I can see it in we can see the trade off of the pot drawer for the larger oven and I'm confident we made the right decision

Yeah i think a big oven is a good trade off.

I've seen photos of our oven but i haven't been able to spy it through the window. Looking forward to having a big (and decent) 900mm oven. I never use the crappy oven in our rental, i just cook outside in the smoker

I'm exactly the same Bob, we've got this 600mm in the rental which isn't great so I try to cook in it as little as possible. I do most of my cooking on the stovetop and Mr Doe does all his meat in the Weber out the back. He desperately wants a smoker to add to his collection of Weber's once we're in the new house and the bank balance recovers a bit! I'll be able to get my Kitchenaid out of storage though and start baking again once I've got a decent oven which is exciting. I found this picture of the oven on the Westinghouse website and look how much it fits in it, it's amazing

I have 4 bbqs so we have plenty of outdoor cooking space (although the gas bbq hasn't been fired up in a couple of years) but on these cold nights it would be nice to cook indoors

That Westinghouse oven looks huge! Nice to know the 900mm ovens can cook two roasts at once

Dropped by today while I was off work and there was a trade working upstairs patching around the electrical fittings upstairs where the electrician had made a dogs breakfast of the walls so hopefully that will look good when he's finished.

Main floor bathroom shower screen and mirror installed:

Ensuite shower screen installed:

Sliding wardrobe doors to minor bedrooms installed:

Manhole and ceiling in master bedroom WIR repaired:

Kitchen ceiling repaired after the timbers were presumably shaved down and looking much more even now:

From what I can think of now the outstandings are:
- Render to be applied to first floor panel where it was patched
- Paint kitchen, garage and WIR ceilings
- Paint remaining external render, cladding and downpipes
- Remaining coats of paint to doors
- Installation of door handles
- Air con ducting in the storeroom to be fixed
- Railings to be installed in wardrobes
- Balustrade and handrail installation to staircase
- Incorrect kitchen panels/doors to be replaced
- Kitchen tap installed
- Incorrect taps to laundry and both bathrooms to be changed
- Rectification of cracked brick in garage
- Electrician to finish a few bits and pieces (garage, main bathroom rectification and GPO to ensuite backsplash to be installed)
- Small amount of outstanding tiling (ensuite backsplash, skirting tiles around ensuite WC doorway incomplete and grout to top of kitchen backsplash)
- Blinds to bedrooms and theatre
- Laminate and carpet installation
- Skirtings board installation

Lots of little jobs so hopefully we're not toooooo far off completion. Have to order the handles for the kitchen so we can install them immediately after handover which I'd totally forgotten about earlier and should probably start thinking about some light fittings too!
