Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Sloping & Narrow block: Modern Hamptons style build: FRA 242Aug 04, 2017 12:12 am JB1 Hansgrohe isn't cheap but quality tapware. You sourcing it yourself or via the builder? Myself. I bought in bulk and got a crazy rate. Actually have a few spare ones I will need to put on eBay ! Re: Sloping & Narrow block: Modern Hamptons style build: FRA 243Aug 04, 2017 12:15 am So today was a **** day. Builder advised the Sparky didn't know we were doing underground power so they want me to pay another 500 bucks to dig a trench from the footpath to the house (or alternatively I can dig it myself). Lovely. Then builder advised me that the slab that was finished weeks ago, required more concrete as it was dug deeper than planned so will cost me more. Livid! So much for fixed price contracts. Anyway not sure how much it is so will need to see what it comes in as. Have maintained a good relationship with the Builder thus far and had no complaints so I'm hoping we can work it out. Re: Sloping & Narrow block: Modern Hamptons style build: FRA 244Aug 04, 2017 1:26 am Do you mind telling me where you ordered the hansgrohe tapware? Sorry to say, but your builder is taking you for a ride. If there was less concrete used, would you get a credit? Secondly, he selected the electrician and not you. What new house has overhead power? It's part of the council permit to go underground. You're lucky there's an existing electrical pit. Re: Sloping & Narrow block: Modern Hamptons style build: FRA 245Aug 04, 2017 1:39 am There wasn't an existing pit. I had overhead previously and only just paid the 4k to have one installed a few months back. Yeah agree on the concrete not happy at all. Bought the hansgrohe stuff from E&S trading. Full local warranty etc. Got a good deal as we dropped 16k on appliances that day Re: Sloping & Narrow block: Modern Hamptons style build: FRA 246Aug 04, 2017 8:36 am If you had to install a new pit why would anyone think that you would go overhead, let alone a builder and electrician? So, pole to pit, back to pole? Lol Purely a money grab. What was the % disc on the tapware? I've used hansa and grohe before, but hansgrohe is even more expensive for most items. Re: Sloping & Narrow block: Modern Hamptons style build: FRA 250Aug 05, 2017 10:41 pm Yep. Agree. Sometimes you just have to roll up your sleeves and get stuff done. Re: Sloping & Narrow block: Modern Hamptons style build: FRA 251Aug 05, 2017 11:20 pm Gee hard work there but money saved. Well done! Hope all's well. Hey! no real updates, steel is delayed till Tuesday next week. I have a LOT of steel coming apparently, then base frame will be done by next week then Posi's and First floor after that. Hoping they can put the steel up in the bad weather expected next week. My current drama is that im struggling to get an answer from telstra about connecting Cable/Phone to our house. Every time I call I get a different answer! Hows things going with your place? Sloping & Narrow block: Modern Hamptons style build: FRAMING 254Aug 11, 2017 10:03 pm Christoshizz My current drama is that im struggling to get an answer from telstra about connecting Cable/Phone to our house. Every time I call I get a different answer! It's simple really. Ask for foxtel to connect cable TV. Usually the cheapest and best way to get the cable run. I had my foxtel guy run the conduit from the pit to the side of the house which actually runs underneath the driveway ( some fancy bore / conduit thing). The optus guy turned up two days later and used the conduit to pull through the coax from the pole. I've got either to use now. The key is run two conduits from the site pole which gives you plenty of options. When the builder did my driveway I actually put two conduits under it for the data but the foxtel guy ran his own... Go figure. Re: Sloping & Narrow block: Modern Hamptons style build: FRA 255Aug 11, 2017 10:12 pm Cheers Steve. The Bore thing is exactly what I'm trying to do. I got a quote from a Cabler and they wanted 500 bucks to bore under my neighbours driveway!! Re: Sloping & Narrow block: Modern Hamptons style build: FRA 257Aug 13, 2017 10:37 am Nice! but there are no service fuses nor any meters. Strange location? Is your garage more a carport thing. How does the service provider read the meter ? Re: Sloping & Narrow block: Modern Hamptons style build: FRA 258Aug 13, 2017 8:52 pm No meter readers. It's all smart meters done digitally. Garage is at rear of house so this was the only place for it Re: Sloping & Narrow block: Modern Hamptons style build: STE 259Aug 18, 2017 10:17 pm Finally an update. In the pouring rain and a hail storm in Melbourne today, our steel went in! It was delayed as they needed a special crane to put it on site, the other crane kept going close to power lines. That's an impressive amount of steel. The floor level out the back will be amazing for the views. Hopefully the rest of there framework can push ahead now as well as the roof trusses. Thanks NativeZen! I can't wait to start landscaping, though it's going to be a while away yet. No movement on site yet as of the weekend. Hoping to see some earthworks… 3 2160 Thanks again for this information. If you do hear anything different, would be great to know 4 5990 dimensions on your original plan are inconsistent and with accurate dimensions (including site plan, upstairs and down) i could make a proper scale drawing with furniture… 3 6198 |
