A smaller supplier may not be able to offer this to M's satisfaction. And then there's the added overhead (and risk) of dealing with another supplier - if you're a volume project builder, then any deviation from the norm is a much bigger administrative (and process, and QA) headache than most people realise. Also, if you're a large customer like M then you'd be able to use your purchasing power to get a good deal with CSR, in exchange for not using any competing products, so the raw price differential is probably non-existent - so from M's point of view, engaging another supplier when they already have an adequate one would mean extra complication for no benefit. Agreed but that's assuming Harpro is smaller than CSR. I think you'll find that Harpro's 3 manufacturing plants in China can easily supply all of the AAC needs of M. They have after all helped supply the AAC to build all those new high rises in China. I read somewhere that the number of apartments built in China since the GFC is equivalent to the total housing stock in Western Europe! Now that their construction boom has come to a halt, those factories are presumably idle and would be looking to offload any spare capacity and product at competitive prices. I hear what you are saying re dealing with a number of suppliers adds complexity, but it seems M will use another supplier when they want if it suits them. Case in point they don't use CSR gyprock. I understand they use Boral Plasterboard instead. I'm not sure why but I found that very interesting given that most of the supplies are CSR made - Hebel, Edmonds whirlybirds, Bradford wall wraps and sarking. That looks awesome. I can't wait to be in our home next year. Your mate has a very nice looking home there too! love his colour scheme too - it really compliments the plantation facade they chose. Also love their boat! Looks like a nice ride to go on for a spot of fishing! The fact they have such a wide house plus a double garage and then have room down the side for a boat too, gees they must have a very large block! They are at the end of the street, hence the super wide block of land =) Re: North Shore Newhaven (Sydney) 65Jan 04, 2017 8:26 am Nice work on your Hebel upgrades Nom. I don't think it's that much of disaster of a week. You'll be getting double wrapping and it's not like they started installing the wrong hebel. Only one week delay so all should be good. True, I was really hoping for the ground floor walls to be up and the roof before xmas. Apparently the correct wrap is being installed today so will take a drive up to see. Hope you have a good xmas break and happy new year! Thanks, I was worried that it might be too dark as Council made us change it, but I think it looks ok. We originally chose Surfmist but due to reflectivity concerns by council ( such BS) we changed to Wallaby. I actually had to pull out the chart and agree a colour with them! Worst thing is that I changed the window colour to Wallaby too but forgot to change the colour of the winders from white to black so now it looks a little uncoordinated. Oh well.... first world problems as they say. Some minor things.... i saw in one place the dynabolts for the top hat rails weren't in properly in one place and so they may not hold the 90kg panels properly as designed. Otherwise looks like a good job. Again anticorrosive paint was not applied to exposed reo which is disappointing. 3) Front portico piers and frames have been constructed. 4) Plumbing rough in done. 5) Further bracing completed in the house and frame bolted down to slab. 6) Scaffolding erected this week 7) Had site inspection to discuss quality issues. SM rejected my request so I escalated to CM and quoted the relevant contract paragraph entitling me to access. Meeting held 2 days later. Things discussed were internal stair treads not same length, wall wrap ripped in places, roof sarking hanging out in one place, fixing of chipped slab, hebel not properly brought right down in one or two areas meaning slab will be exposed, roof joists are bowed. CM has agreed I can have a hand wash basin in my upstairs WC. I met with plumber on site to discuss which was nice. Was also great to see him working on Tuesday when it was pouring down with rain but he still kept going because the roof was on which is excellent. Sounds like you are on the ball with everything. I had areas of the wall wrap ripped also due to strong winds however I didn't raise it as an issue. A couple of areas were not covered and when I raised that with my SS he just said that it's not required since the area already had ply over it. I know I could of taken it further but chose to leave it. I think it's great that you are pushing them to fix them all and you'll end up with a great house. Hopefully it doesn't wear you down to much, Re: North Shore Newhaven (Sydney) 79Feb 10, 2017 11:59 am Drove past today, first floor wall wrap being installed with top hats and then hebel to go on next week.
