One added stress not needed during the build but sounds like it is being sorted. Did they manage to get the engineer to sign off on the slab in the end? Our build thread with Smart Homes for Living in Wellard https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=86092 Re: My first build - Celebration Homes - Brightwood Baldivis 83Jun 06, 2017 4:11 pm Hey Bob. Still waiting. Good news is the brickwork is otherwise finished. Engineer sign off on the slab/wall in question is the only hold up. They've given the engineer photos of what they did but I can't see that he would sign off on that, and don't think what they've done is to code anyway. It's likely they will need to pull that part of the wall down and rebuild based on revised engineer drawings. That said, the above wouldn't take too much time. Everything else looks great and a meeting with the area manager this morning was productive. Hopefully the engineer can give some instructions this week regarding rectification and we can then look forward to moving on with roof carpentry First home builder - Brightwood Estate, Baldivis. It's surprising how quick they can get the brick work done though if they do have to tear part of it down. Our brick work rectification after our inspector gave his recommendations was pretty much done in a day. Long story short, the builder's engineer signed off on the rectification of the slab/wall issue. I had my own engineer take a look and he has also signed off. There's potentially some slight cracking at the base of the wall down the track, but this will be aesthetic only and should be hidden by skirting boards. Fingers crossed that's the case. Anyway, since that, they've pressed on with the roof and I've attached a photo from yesterday's visit. Roof cover is due for install 26/6! I'm getting my building inspector out later this week to do his report. Hopefully no more hiccups! First home builder - Brightwood Estate, Baldivis. Celebration Homes. Hopefully the rest of the build goes a bit more smoothly and you can enjoy the progress Our build thread with Smart Homes for Living in Wellard https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=86092 My first build - Celebration Homes - Brightwood Baldivis WA 87Jun 26, 2017 2:31 pm Stopped by on the weekend. Both side fences are now up. Roof frame finished, eaves and garage ceiling are up, gutters up, plumbing done and electrics have been chased. There's one issue with a data point not in the right spot (see photo - should be next to GPO so it will be hidden by the wall mounted TV) but otherwise everything looking great. Building inspector attended last week and was really happy with everything done to date. Can't believe how fast it's all moving! Other than cold weather making the builder wait longer for waterproofing to dry but then the tiler just worked the weekend to keep things on schedule We've been happy with a quicker build. More electrical done, games data point relocated as requested, and some grey float done to rear bedrooms and living areas. Front render has been done too. Got an email yesterday saying the internal work will be done over the next 5 weeks, then lock up! The sun always makes photos of the front a bit difficult, so my apologies for that. Grey float done, windows are in and plastering was being finished when I arrived today. All looking good - though they've identified the alfresco servery window is upside down - but that will be sorted. Builder doesn't include them as far as I can tell, and it's not something I considered adding - just completely overlooked them. What are everyone's thoughts? I think they're essential, to protect form vacuum cleaners, shoes etc hitting the wall at the base and chipping it over time. Any ideas on costs and/or feasibility of installing them yourself? Follow my build here Re: My first build - Celebration Homes - Brightwood Baldivis 99Jul 09, 2017 10:37 pm Our rental doesn't have skirting boards and we haven't found it to be an issue so probably won't bother with them in the new place. Don't think they'd be hard to put in yourself though. I like them not only for protecting the walls from vacuuming and shoe scuffs but also the aesthetic it adds, they make everything look finished nicely. There's a company that advertises on Facebook who do skirtings for an entire house for around $2,000 fully installed and painted from memory and I've also seen them advertising 12 months interest free recently which might help if finances are a bit tight immediately after handover.
