Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 29, 2016 6:08 am I'm building a simple design house on a budget. All rooms with plumbing services grouped together along one wall. What I'd like to know is: Would it be cheaper to have all fixtures along the actual wall as much as possible - so pipes can run inside the external wall; or since some will have to be up through the slab anyway (drains) - run most up through the slab? I'm now thinking there may not be much of a cost difference? Which means I can have the fixtures anywhere in those rooms rather than be restricted to along the wall... Any thoughts? Re: Plumbing in slab or wall? 2Sep 29, 2016 12:09 pm All your water pipes will go through walls and ceilings. The sewage drain pipes go through slab. There was no price difference for me with where I put things. Have a chat to your builder as chances are you will be able to change your fixtures if you want and it won't cost anything more or less. I found the same with windows, I could make them bigger for no cost as once they minus out bricks, extra wood in framing and plaster it comes out the same. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Plumbing in slab or wall? 3Sep 29, 2016 12:26 pm Thanks for that shellby. I've noticed that about windows - there seems to be only a small increase in price the larger you get. Not sure if it's different where you are, but most water pipes seem to rise straight up out of the slab here in NZ. We're using a solid panel system so they can't go through internal walls at all.
