Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 26, 2016 2:42 pm So our backyard is going to be 19m by 3.5m. Small, right? I was wondering if you have any ideas as to how we can maximise this space? If you have any photos of what you have done with backyards of similar sizes it would be much appreciated! Thanks Re: Small backyard 2Sep 26, 2016 2:48 pm ours will also be small - something like 12 by 7? i wanted to put a plunge pool in one corner but can't afford that now with the building cost going way over budget..any ideas would be great! Re: Small backyard 5Sep 27, 2016 6:08 pm True, shape sometimes is more important then overall size, i.e. you wouldn't want 1x100m.. I'm sure you can come up with some good ideas though. Try some display homes, alot of them have small backyards. Re: Small backyard 6Sep 29, 2016 3:17 pm check out landscaping sites/pages, they usually make the most of any size space and make it look great! Re: Small backyard 7Sep 29, 2016 4:09 pm I'm facing a similar issue, mine will be about 4x12.5. My plan is to divide mine in two, half as a deck extending from alfresco to back fence and half as grass so it's not a long skinny strip (I have no kids so grass isn't high priority for me). That way I can have comfy seating on the deck and table and chairs on the alfresco (or vice versa). Here is a fancy Houzz version of what I have in my head. No high maintenance mini hedges for me though! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Small backyard 9Sep 29, 2016 4:51 pm Jenifermarie, I've got the exact same dimension. I will be eager to know what you do. Cheers. Re: Small backyard 10Sep 29, 2016 4:55 pm I plan to have some form of seating as well, somewhere around the alfresco. Not sure yet how I want to achieve it. Stone bench or wood bench along the fence a bit with shade tree? However I do not plan to deck the backyard. DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair That laser level looks lovely! We bought one for less than a quarter of that price off eBay. It worked really well for us and it's still going now, five years later. Soak wells need sandy soils. 10 8975 Need advice on the backyard plan above. Should I excavate and cut all of the dirt to level with the house slab or semi-excavate as per photo above?
