Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 07, 2008 1:21 pm Hi, hopefully Ive posted this is the right section, the Building Codes section might be better, but it doesnt seem to get much traffic!
We are owner builders and have a deck coming off our house maybe 1/2 a storey high. All the brick piers have ant capping, which the brickie said we needed. HOWEVER, we have 2 small kids and due to our deck being an odd shape and piers sort of protrude out from the deck a little, it looks difficult to block off underneath. If termites wanted to, they could just go up the stairs, so it seems silly to have the very dangerous and sharp ant capping on the piers. Does anyone know if you HAVE to have the capping. DH said we can just slide them out til we know how to block off the deck, but it would be alot easier/cheaper if we can leave them off permanently! Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!!
