Although, given this sign on the front door I'm thinking tiling only began yesterday so not much progress yet. I was really hoping they'd have been finished, or near too. So, we have some floor tiles, no bathroom or splashback tiles yet. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Says 'wet tile today Friday'. Re: {dawn} Custom Build - Flooring begins 902Apr 01, 2017 11:22 am Also, even though the neighbor said they would clean off the concrete they haven't..in fact two big blocks of concrete from their block have magically ended up in my backyard... and the fence has gone up, when I asked for them to hold off ;-; ANNOYED. So, my builder's problem now.. I now have two fences up, one to go. No other progress except the tiling... oh and they fixed the internal garage door handle Also, had a look at the creek being developed over the road.. looking good. I like the tile they've laid but that was before I saw the one you chose. I would say something now, doesn't matter that you didn't pay extra, but you did pay nonetheless. Or the choosing of colours would have been pointless and the builder might as well have not set up a colour appointment and given you whatever they wanted. Honestly it's a hard decision to make. I get that you want to move in asap. I know how badly you want to be in there but floors are not something you are going to change once you're in and it will just be something you resent. Re: {dawn} Custom Build - Flooring begins 906Apr 01, 2017 1:41 pm What does it say in your building contract or colours document regarding the tile selection? Don't rule out that the tile supplier (eg beaumonts) may have supplied wrong tiles. Tiler man will just lay what he is given. Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 907Apr 01, 2017 2:15 pm All contracts will also say that they reserve the right to replace tiles if one is not available/discontinued. But you should definitely challenge them just be prepared for them to fight you and insist they are correct!! I do think I would be feeling like you though and just would put up with it if the change was still satisfactory. For what it's worth the colour they have laid looks very nice. Our Acacia build - http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=86619 Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 908Apr 01, 2017 4:00 pm Thanks everyone. The colour selection document definitely states Manhattan light grey. They have laid the wrong colour, or there is a very large variation between the sample and the actual product they are laying. The tiles came from a small store, no Beaumont or anything with my builder.. I know I will have a battle on my hands to convince them that the colour is wrong, and also probably a number of weeks delay to get them to change it, and I just can't handle that now. So I will grudgingly accept the wrong colour. Thankfully its not massively different.. though it is a lot darker than I wanted. Hopefully with furniture, rugs, etc in it will be alright. At least this colour shouldn't show too much dirt... I will at least let them know its the wrong colour.. at some stage. To be honest, I am thinking that I will no longer visit my house until PCI, I am sick of seeing the mess and lack of progress, its very disheartening. I'm not even sure I will bother continuing to contact the builder, as I am not getting any response. I'm just sick of talking about the house, everytime my friends or family ask about it, I get a lecture on how I need to chase the builder more. I might also be round a little less on H1, I need a break ;-; Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 909Apr 01, 2017 4:24 pm Dawn I'm so excited to see progress at your place!! I am so sorry they have laid the wrong tiles! Can you live with this? You can request to have this changed even though this will delay you. I know how hard it is with no progress and understand you needing a break from H1. Hugs to you sweets, I hope it gets better GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 910Apr 01, 2017 7:20 pm First thought I had was, wow nice tiles! But I also like your pick better. I would try talking to the tile shop first to see if they know what happened. Sometimes the manufactures make some pretty noticeable changes to the tiles, we had some samples that you would swear were different, one brown, one grey. They were the same but the grey one was sadly from an old batch. Or they might be able to confirm that they are wrong, which certainly seems to be the case. Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 911Apr 01, 2017 7:51 pm Was so excited to see tiles but wrong tiles is very disappointing. Did you check the product code on the tile box? Should be able to work out what they've laid and whether it looks different in natural light or they've stuffed up.. My sister had all her tiles laid wrong (supposed to be bricked and they stacked them) and she got them to rip them Up and re lay.... end of the day it's what you're happy to live with. It may take a few more weeks but to get what you wanted might be worth it.. Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 912Apr 01, 2017 8:02 pm Oh that's so disappointing Dawn If it were me I would probably get them to fix it. I know right now you just want the build to finish and move in, but in the long run I think you'll be disappointed you didn't wait the extra week or two. But if you like the ones they have laid then just leave it I personally like both the tiles, but they are different. Just worried it won't suit my other colour choices now, like my mocha grout or my grey concrete kitchen pendants.. I'll enquire with the builder to see what's gone wrong, but at this stage I won't ask for them to be changed. Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 915Apr 01, 2017 9:33 pm Oh Dawn! How disheartening for you. Personally i love the colour of the tile that has been laid and i think your mocha grout will work nicely with it. I think it will also work well with your other colours. They compliment the cabinetry although maybe not quite enough contrast with your laundry cabinetry? Does it really matter in the laundry? They are very brown, when I wanted grey... but I do think they break up the white throughout (which was the plan). At this stage, I will just accept them but I am going to question the builder about it. Yeah, they don't contrast in the laundry.. and the bathrooms have the same vanity colour, which is why at my colour selection I picked the lighter colour. I originally picked this colour at the start of the appointment, then at the end I switched to the light colour because it better suited my other selections. I'm going to email the builder this morning asking them to confirm what colour has been laid. I think if I did try to get them to change it I would have a huge battle on my hands to prove it was wrong. Do you guys like what they've laid though? I'm wondering if it looks so brown because of all the brown bits of cardboard and such.. hoping once some other colours come in, with furniture, etc.. it will look different. Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 918Apr 02, 2017 8:59 am aloenyx Unfortunately the box was in Chinese, except for the word Cappuccino.. The tile shop isn't open tomorrow, so will have to wait till next weekend. Was their a product code you could look up? Yes it will be a pain in the *** to fight the builder but you don't sound happy in the new colour so personally I would do it. It's not your fault and they will have no choice to fix it if they've put down the wrong tile. They don't look fixed yet so if call the builder asap tomorrow so they don't go any further... or if you have someone who can go to site tomorrow morning talk to the tiler. If you're not happy with them don't let them lay all the tiles in the hope it will get better xx Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 919Apr 02, 2017 9:14 am Nope, no product code. I've emailed the builder to ask what colour they have laid, but told them not to stop tiling. My concern is even if they change to the other tile, I still don't think I'll be 100% happy with the colour. The builder just didn't really have any tiles I liked in their standard range.. or carpet colours for that matter. It will be fine. Plus I'd feel terrible if I made them rip it all out, it would be such a waste and I'd feel sorry for the poor bloke who did all that work. I have also highlighted the issue with the kitchen window being the wrong size.. and told them I want to them to sort out the concreting issue with the neighbor, as I'm so worried the neighbor will damage the house while trying to clean it off.. I'd rather the builder just sorts it when they lay my concrete. Plus, at this stage that window will probably have to be replaced anyways. And, called out again that I want completion date ASAP Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Flooring begins 920Apr 02, 2017 9:15 am Oh, forgot to say I got a glimpse of my neighbor on the other side yesterday. Seem like a nice couple, and they have a young son. He's very cute!! About 3 I think. I was going to go have a quick look at the house and then introduce myself, but they'd left by then.
