Browse Forums Building A New House Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Long journey nearly over! 2901Jun 09, 2018 9:15 pm Been doing a few projects around the house and some spring cleaning, so I thought I'd share some pictures D
Can't believe its been nearly 12 months since I moved in (August is 1 year). Here's the front of the house Garden is growing so well. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Backyard!! Over the last three days I've ripped out the grass along the back fence and planted out the new garden bed. Was HARD work, but I love it. Ended up going with natives We've also installed laserlite the entire way around the fence between middle rail and top of fence to keep my cat from escaping, so far its working! But the landscaping is FINALLY done. Gardens are growing nicely. Just a mirror to go up and need to finish my photo gallery in the hallway D Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Long journey nearly over! 2906Jun 12, 2018 12:25 pm Everything is looking brilliant! I can't wait until our garden looks as established as yours. Great minds... we also spent the weekend hanging pictures. Took our new neighbours asking if we were settled in and us admitting that we still had pictures leaning against walls (6 months on) to motivate us. I also started planning a photo gallery for the front hall. Where did you get your frames? The other aim for the weekend was planning out the back yard but we just keep going around in circles, we really don't know what we want. Laserlite is an interesting idea. Mali likes to pop over the back fence for look. Fortunately she doesn't go far, she is terrified of strangers, unless they are in our house talking to us, then they must be fine . Not sure what the neighbours think of the kids climbing over to get her back. She's meant to only be outside on the lead or under strict supervision but she likes to stretch the rules . Some Mali spam for you Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ She still comes to work with me in my office, although sometimes the sunny bedroom is too tempting in the afternoons. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Not sure how she achieved this, she managed to get on the sunny side of the curtain and stay on her cushion. What a sweetheart. And omg, that last photo had me in stitches. Cats are the best. Backyards are hard, I sort of always wanted this layout, but took ages to decide on plants and get there. Happy now though. Still need it all to grow some more, but will take years D the front is coming together though. The daisys just went absolutely bonkers, they grew so fast. The frames came from Officework, they have a suprisingly good range. I also learned how to use their self print picture machine, so awesome and cheap too. I hung them all using 3M strips from Officeworks, they kind of work like velcro. You put one strip on the frame and one of the wall, and they click together. Its great because doesn't leave a mark on the wall if you want to take it down. I just used a small level to get them all straight. I laid them out on the kitchen counter first to get a feel for layout, then stuck them up on the wall one by one. Was actually not as hard a project as I thought it would be DD and I love how it looks. I used nails and hanging wire for more of my other pictures. The laserlite is working great so far, I have that and then the rollers on top and Cass has finally stopped being able to escape!! She use to be an outdoor kitty, but this new area is too dangerous with all the construction going on and cars driving past, plus there's some mean cats a few doors down that have attacked her before. I'm just so glad to be done with everything now!! Can finally sit back and just enjoy the house, no more projects for the time being. Can't believe how much money I've spent in the last few months on this place either XDD.. time to start saving for a holiday!! Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Long journey nearly over! 2908Jun 12, 2018 1:10 pm I never thought of Officeworks! I'll check them out. We've been using a gadget called a "Takker" to hang our pictures. My mother gave it to my husband for christmas, she buys lots of rubbish off the TV and internet, so we were very skeptical. But it's surprisingly good and very quick! Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Long journey nearly over! 2909Jun 12, 2018 1:48 pm Your garden is looking great! What did you end up planting along the back fence? I'm so indecisive my garden beds are done front & back but I still can't figure out what to plant . All your little finishing touches work really well together. You should be very proud of your beautiful cosy little home. I don't get on H1 much anymore but I always love seeing your updates/cute furbabies when I do. I probably should update my post lots has happened. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Long journey nearly over! 2910Jun 15, 2018 1:11 pm You should definitely post your updates So many people drop off once the build is finished, but its the after build stuff I always wanted to see and hear about, like did people's choices pay off and such. I planted Grevillea along the back, not sure which one, got it from the local markets at $40 a shrub, but will grow about 2m by 4m if I let it. Underneath is Lomandra grass and some NZ Christmas Bushes called Silver Glow. Hopefully they grow nice and big, though my bunnies having been munching on the grasses already. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Done and dusted! 2916Jun 19, 2018 8:44 pm bank Wow he's gorgeous! Now why don't I believe that he's your final kitty Probably because you know me so well but he's definitely the last for a while!! He's just stunning and so smoooochy. He's 2 years old. Just trying to get the girls to accept him and vice versa. Can't wait till they all can cuddle up together. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Done and dusted! 2917Jun 29, 2018 6:41 am Its been nearly 11 months since handover and I still have a long list of non compliant defects to be rectified. Lodged a submission with the building commission, let's see what happens. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Done and dusted! 2919Jul 12, 2018 5:28 pm So after putting in my complaint against the builder, he finally called me!! Though I haven't actually heard from the building commission or whoever they are. I missed his call though, so haven't actually spoken to him yet.
