Browse Forums Building A New House Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Internal photos & blinds 1121Apr 29, 2017 7:53 pm Looks fantastic! The real colours don't look very far off from the samples, like half a shade different. I was impressed at how close the samples are Hopefully helps anyone trying to make decisions in the future. Overall I'm happy with how the colors are coming together, the tones and shades are what I imagined.. lots of light, bright colours with some soft greys/tans to break it up. I really love the kitchen, especially now the bench top is in. The space today felt really good, lots of natural light at different times of the day (even with cloud going over and rain). The house doesn't feel cramped, and with the fences up it felt nice and private. Really appreciating the high ceilings, definitely worth the upgrade price. Also loving the double glazed windows, there was builders over the back playing music and using power tools, with the windows shut barely heard a thing. I'm definitely falling in love with the house. The rooms felt big enough, nothing felt cramped. The colours were soothing. So in love with the big counter in the kitchen, so much space!! Can't wait to be baking and cooking in there. Only space that feels small is the backyard, but that is not necessarily a bad thing (less mowing!!). Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Internal photos & blinds 1124Apr 29, 2017 8:20 pm Really like how they've done your broom closet in the laundry with a linen shelves incorporated. I wish I could have had something like that in my laundry. I had to install some shelves in my laundry which doesn't look as good as your closet. Was a very exhausting day. I got to the house at 10am. Felt surreal to be opening the front door with the key. Was so good to be able to see the inside of the house after 5 months. First I ran around taking photos, I took close to 300!! Then I went back through looking everything over in detail, opening every cupboard, running the taps, etc. I thought I was really prepared.. but I forgot to take a pen so couldn't write anything down. I bought my phone charger to test the powerpoints, but they weren't installed.. and then my phone had low battery and lastly I was like "toilets are in.. so no issue there".. but didn't think about toilet paper!! The blind people didn't arrive until 12.30.. you would think having 2 hours to be in your new house alone would be fun.. but after the first hour it gets boring. I was going to wander the neighborhood for front landscaping ideas but it kept raining. I definitely love the house. It was fun trying to figure out where furniture would go and such. And it was fun exploring all the cupboards. I like the way they've done the corner cupboard in the kitchen. And I found door stops in one of the draws XD. Stood in the en suite shower.. and I think the fixed panel might be too short to stop water splashing.. opps! But I guess I'll see. The pantry is HUGE and so is the linen closet, can't wait to stock them both up. In terms of issues, nothing major which was good to see. A lot of paint touch ups which I expected, a few mark on the walls that need to be patched, mostly from doors. A few cracks in the concrete slab which I guess they'll patch before they lay the carpet. Some of the kitchen cabinetry could be a little better, few gaps and a broken bit under the sink (photos below). I didn't see any major defects, so that was good. Most of the workmanship, like tiles, bench tops, etc all looks really good. All the windows wind, the taps run, the toilets flush. In regards to the plans, mostly been followed. I think the reason the main bathroom shower screens haven't been installed would be due to the wrong design on the plans, which I raised.. so hopefully they fix and install soon. A few things don't quite measure up, the 1200mm shower is more like 1000mm, the 40x40cm shower niches, are more like 45x35cm, but nothing that really bothers me. The only thing I don't like is the bath, its installed to one side and not centered in the surround (pic below). Oh, and I'm not a massive fan of the basins, not very deep.. and don't like the gap behind them and the tiles, will ask if they can put a sealant there. The biggest disappointment was in regards to progress. I was expecting electrical fit out to have happened Friday, shower screens & mirrors to be installed, and front fence to be started. Was assuming because of front fence, that temp fence, rubbish and portaloo would be gone and the footings for the fence might have been started, as builder told me the fence design was being worked on. Was also hoping for a surprise or two, maybe wardrobes or carpets.. or something. Instead, all I could see that hard been done was sealing of tiles around the edges of the rooms, mirrors in the bathrooms, shower screen in en suite (missing in main bath as mentioned) and one of the drainpipes has been moved/corrected. No electrical, no clean up/fencing started. The lack of progress was extremely frustrating. I sincerely doubt I will be having handover before mid-May, in fact.. I'm thinking we are probably at least 4 weeks out, and given their usual pace.. maybe even 6 weeks. Very disappointing. I'll be emailing the builder for confirmation of dates tomorrow, hopefully find out something next week.. as it looks like I have to move my leave AGAIN. Coral Homes Avoca 25 in Gainsborough Greens Gold Coast Viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81406 I love the linen closet. Originally it was going to be a cupboard off the hallway, but I much prefer it as part of the laundry. Its funny, I didn't specify much of anything XDD But they've done a good job on the cabinetry. I like the way the linen closet is done and I also like the shelf in the vanities..and the kitchen cupboards were done quite well. Oh, the only other defect I noticed was that some powerpoint cut outs were missing, but hopefully they'll sort those as part of the electrical fit out. The house is looking great! The rooms look so generous for a smaller house, there must be no wasted space! I'm especially jealous of your laundry! Its amazing how grey the tiles look in the closer photo and how brown they look in a wider a shot, that should make them really versatile with furniture colour! Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Internal photos & blinds 1133May 01, 2017 11:29 am Everything looking amazing Dawn... It is worth the wait... the issues are easily fixable.... I too have the dead gap behind the basin and between the spa and wall... it is a pain to clean but need to get used to it...lol Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Internal photos & blinds 1134May 01, 2017 3:50 pm Hey Dawn, So glad you got to spend such a good amount of time in the house on your own, and I am so happy to hear you energised and excited about it again! And I am SO envious of your laundry!!! I didn't have room for one in my house, and yours looks amazing! Next time I build, I am absolutely having a separate laundry, yours looks awesome. The first pic that I have quoted above, are you sure they're door stops? They look an awful lot like towel rail ends to me? And the second pic that I have quoted above, are they not the gas and electric connections for your stove? They usually pop those in the underbench cupboard beside. Makes it a pain to use them as storage as there's cables in there, but you can usually figure something unimportant to hide in there Plus, yay for more kitten pictures! Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Internal photos & blinds 1135May 01, 2017 6:29 pm Thanks everyone When I was looking at plans, my one big thing was 'no wasted space' and I think its worked!! Its not a big house, but every square has been put to work XD I might have to sell tickets to my laundry, seems to be everyone's favourite. The laundry is the room that's gone through the most changes... originally the linen closet was meant to be in the hallway next to the laundry, but the builder suggested incorporating it into the laundry instead which I liked, as less doors = good. The laundry has not turned out anything like I planned but I think its worked out well. I love the huge closet.. and the gap under the bench was planned (to hide kitty litter trays.. though might also be for a chest freezer one day). I do want to put in overhead cupboards, maybe with a dryer rack too.. the room is kind of a combo. Its the laundry room, the additional pantry space and pet central XD. The best part is, to get that huge cupboard, the stone benchtop, the whole length splashback, cupboard with inset sink and sliding door was only $400 upgrade Your right about the tiles Bank. I can't make up my mind about them, in the living areas I like them.. they seem more purple/grey, but in the bathrooms and laundry they feel more brown.. could be because of the cabinetry. I do like the larger size and the matt colour. Thanks Reg! Yeah I think this house is going to be worth the wait... I'm glad I didn't change builders in terms of design/selections.. though progress could be better. The gap is irritating, but I had the same thing in my apartment.. but they had put silicone there, I'm going to ask the builder during PCI if they can do the same, or just get my dad to do it after I move in. I am feeling better about the house though still really frustrated with lack of progress.. but hopefully will be over soon. Haha, I'm surprised how much love the laundry is getting. Though it is a nice big room!! Our current laundry is in an awkward spot and too small, always have to climb over a pile of washing to get out the back door, so wanted to avoid that. XD Your right, they might not be door stops.. I just assumed. Yup they are the stove points I think, the cupboard is right next to the oven. The cupboard is really small, so not a big deal, will find something to put in there. Haha.. yeah loving the kitty pictures. I have quite a few now. I can't wait to bring my Pandy home!! Though I wish I had a house to put her in. Going to be very squishy in my current house for a few weeks. Especially once the second bunny arrives.. I didn't intend to get all my new pets BEFORE I got the house, but oh well. I'll have 2 cats and 2 rabbits to move into the house. Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Internal photos & blinds 1137May 01, 2017 6:54 pm For fun.. here's some more house pics.. and a kitten pic. Emailed the builder last night asking for end dates.
