I know what it's like to have a horrible boss and it's so stressful at the best of times. Hang in there.... I'm sure the world will seem brighter when your in your beautiful new home. - B A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87210 {dawn} SE Melb Build - 2wk Countdown 1283May 24, 2017 9:45 pm I know exactly how you feel about your boss, I recently resigned from my job because my boss was a micro managing control freak bully. I have never rejoiced in someone else's misfortune but Karma bit her big time and kept a smile on my face for days. Before I left she told me that she had bought a house with four week settlement and made a big point of her being in her new house before me. The 'know it all' didn't get a building inspector to check out the 70 year old house. She bought new curtains and appliances moved in and decided to get a builder in to quote on a kitchen reno. The builder had a look around and asked her why she bought a house with flood damage and black mould. She tried to rescind the contract but the cooling off period had expired and the vendor told her where to go. She has had to move out, go to the doctors and throw out everything she bought. It is going to cost her a small fortune. I strongly believe if you put positive energy out there it will come back to you eventually. You seem to be a kind caring person, I'm sure things will fall into place for you soon. Hang in there!!! Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - 2wk Countdown 1285May 25, 2017 6:45 am You guys are the best. It was a rough day and most of my work friends were out so very lonely. Its an odd situation as i have 2 bosses and one is fine with it..the other not so. Im fine with moving leave and being flexible...but not being harassed about it or the only option im offered is to cancel my leave. Uts particularly annoying as they had known since dece...plus i moved twice so had even longer...but have made no plans to deal with me away...just stuck head in sand and assumed theyd not let me go. Now i have to be the grown up and try and work out a compromise when i really want to quit. Anyways...will contact builder today snd hope for good news on the gas line issue. Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - 2wk Countdown 1286May 25, 2017 1:02 pm Spoke to builder today. Concrete and driveway have been poured...unfortunately they missed a spot with the concreting..so have to come back. Gas is still not sorted so no certificate ;; One step closer..but not there yet. Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - 2wk Countdown 1287May 25, 2017 8:33 pm Long day today. On the work situation. I spoke to my manager and offered to move my leave (only because I don't think house will be ready).. and my manager was so unprepared, offered no alternatives and didn't even thank me for changing my leave when I had every right to take it now. So I moved my leave to end of June... hopefully by then I will be in the house and I can stop stressing a little... Problem was always that I can't move in on the June long weekend... so this way I don't have to worry that my leave will be over before I move in. Hopefully the house is ready by end of next week.. or at least before long weekend. I also called the builder for my weekly update. So the gas line and meter have still not been installed, the gas company is being a pain... he's chasing them up but hopefully soon as I can't get the COO without gas!! I also asked about the concrete, since the weather has been so nice (until today!) and YAY the have done the driveway and concreted the sides and back of the house. I did query what was happening, because in the photos (below) that dad took, the concrete formwork stops randomly at the garage door, I thought it must be because they haven't done the gas meter so didn't mention it.. but apparently they didn't realise that I wanted the concrete to the front of the house *facepalm* No major issue, builder checked my original variation request, and has agreed to complete the additional bit of concreting. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ You an see here, that i stops at the laundry door ;-; I wish I had mentioned it last week!! But anyways, I'm sure they will sort it out. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ From the other side.. Also got permission to move in some stuff, but I don't think I will now... I might just wait till I'm ready to move in and pay for the additional storage unit time. And finally confirmed the shower screens are all in, and I'm assuming the wardrobes too.. So list of things to be done still: - Carpet - Flyscreens - Appliances - Hot water - Split system - Garage door - Defects/patch up - External render -Front fence Council isn't getting back to me about the neighbor's details for fencing.. *Sigh* Tempted to just pay for the whole fence myself, although builder did ask me to hold off until the concreting was done.. Hoping to go down and see the house this weekend Can't wait to see driveway and such done.. but I got a puncture in my car tyre on the way home today.. so have to fix that first ;-; Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - 2wk Countdown 1288May 25, 2017 10:55 pm Oh what a pain with work, sounds like it will all work out for the best though. Good to hear some positive updates from your builder I bet Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - 2wk Countdown 1289May 26, 2017 6:53 pm Get to see the house tomorrow Not to diminish the nightmare my building experience has been, but now its nearly over I've been able to feel a little grateful about it. After all, I don't know many people my age who get to own their own home.. AND get to design and build it All up, apart from delays I've had a pretty good build.. after seeing others builds on H1 I haven't got that much to complain about.. My builder has been fine with fixing up any issues I raise without much fuss, and there hasn't been any major issues that have come up in terms of defects (so far anyways!! Knock on wood).. haven't had any screaming matches, and haven't had to drag the builder to VCAT.. haven't had any issues with my being on site... haven't had any break ins or such.. and thankfully the builder hasn't gone broke.. so all up I can't really complain.. only thing has been these neverending delays!! Its such a shame about the delays, because in all other respects my builder has been pretty good. They have been really flexible with changes and such, they've been fine with me being on site, to the extent they gave me keys to let myself in!! I really wanted to give them good reviews, but all these delays.. I just can't, so I don't think I'll be posting any reviews at all, you know if you don't have anything nice to say.. Can't wait to see house tomorrow DD Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - 2wk Countdown 1290May 26, 2017 7:31 pm Maybe you could give them a review in terms of the quality of build was good and then mention it took longer that anticipated to finish. For me the quality would out way the time factor. I rather have a house take a little bit longer than to have a speedy job with a whole pile of defects. Food for thought. Other factor is that they have been flexible too. I think that is another plus. My own journey in selecting a builder, it looks like I might be going with a smaller local builder in Ballarat who has been very flexible in altering the plan to accomdate what I want in the house. Haven't heard the no would yet. Some of the other project builders I approached for a quote for similar weren't as flexible and seemed to charge a lot more for the same items. Your on the last steps. Just think new house in a couple of weeks. You be kicking back in your new house and I will just be starting the journey. Ha. Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - 2wk Countdown 1291May 26, 2017 8:55 pm Thanks If they'd gone over by a month or so, I could live with it.. but I was told they would have everything ready to go at settlement... and even engaging them 12 months before settlement, the contracts weren't ready till a month after.. and THEN it took another 7 months for the build to start.. and the build itself has taken 8 months, when I was told max 6. I'm sort of getting over it now the house is finally nearly done, but I don't think I could recommend them to others with that sort of time delay. I'm so ready to move in now though. I think we'll be 90% there by end of next week, as long as this gas issue is sorted... but I won't have handover till the long weekend. Just street view. Temp fence and portaloo are down Not sure about the streetlight XD You can see my neighbors have done a lot with their yards XDDD One has been in nearly 6 months. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Front yard.. not too bad a size. House still needs to be rendered.. the pillars and master bedroom wall will be rendered. Thank gawd they did not put a light on that one pillar cable is gone. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Front yard... the footings for the front fence have started, but that's it Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Driveway! Looks okay... I was hoping it would be a little more nicely edged.. and didn't realise it would line up with the porch, so not sure what we will do with paving now.. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Driveway from inside garage. That house across the road is what made me think of exposed aggregate XD They are are lot flatter on that side. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is my Wish pendant It's going to be a nightmare to clean, but has a beautiful soft glow when lit up. It is lycra wrapped around a steel frame. I thought it might have been a little lower... but oh well. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Concreting down the bedroom side of the house... They left this random gap, assuming because of neighbor's slab.. will put a little garden in there. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Other side concreted... this is the side they need to finish ;-; Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Kitchen pendants Bit better shot this time... I really love them. D Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is the back of the house. I'm so glad they put my other sensor light out here, will be nice to have the yard lit up when I pop outside. I have some pots going along here with my frangipani. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The great pile of dirt that is my backyard XD From where they put in the concreting.. assume this will be moved soon. And neighbor's build.. they are going up quick, were at frame 2 weeks ago. Still lots to be done...no major surprises Wardrobe doors are in, but not painted. So still left: - Carpet - Garage door - Render to front - Front fence - Fly screens - Paint wardrobe doors - Defects/touch ups - Site clean and level - Hot water, appliances and split system - Gas meter/line So we seem to be really close!! And so far no major defects or issue, just the missing concrete and some paint touch ups. If they get this gas issue sorted, I can hopefully do PCI next week, have keys by long weekend *fingers crossed*. Have to arrange blind install and that back fence... Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Driveway done! 1295May 27, 2017 5:51 pm This will all be over before you know it Dawn! You'll have that gorgeous kitty in your own home & it won't seem so bad once you're in. Hope this week brings a ton of progress for you, there's not much left! The photos look great, it seems like they've done a good job! Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Driveway done! 1296May 27, 2017 6:58 pm Some more photos My house!!! The slope doesn't look so bad in this picture XD Can't wait to see this rendered. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Close up of the front. Front yard is looking bigger than I expected, still not sure what I will do with the space. Need to wait until the front fence and path are in. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is one of the two sensor lights I supplied (that they were gonna put on the front pillar!!!) This is where I originally intended for it to go... It looks so small once its up on the wall Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My front yard... looking very dumpy XD But this has actually been 'cleaned' XD Needs to be leveled once the front fence/retaining is in. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Loving the concrete down the side of the house, though not sure how we will tile over it... It looks so much neater around the house now. So glad I got this done before I moved in, should keep the dirt down. XD This side is where the cat run is going. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Back of the house This is the part I'm most worried about how we will tile over, as that was always the plan. Its 1.5m from the back of the house into the backyard... I originally intended to have a square area in the backyard, but I like this idea better. Rest of the backyard will be turf... and omg .. so much dirt is piled in my backyard. They are suppose to be taking it out over the empty lot behind me, but they need to hurry up so I can get my back fence put up. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My pendants Love love love. You can also see the downlights are in... wonder what they look like turned on. I didn't supply the light globes for all the pendants XD will have to put them in when I move in. The tiles look more like the colour I expected to in this photo... match the pendants, sort of raw concrete type colour. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is the second sensor light I provided, its over the back door... pretty happy with that Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Backyard Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is the garage door, still don't know why its never been painted Oo; They put in a single spotlight over the door Happy with that. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The missing bit!!!! Can see the electrical has gone in for hot water system. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is the other light they've provided over the laundry door. All up, pretty happy with the outdoor lighting. I would have loved lights on the pillars, but wasn't in the budget.. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is another sensor for the LED porch light D BLUE DOOR!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Front yard.. mess. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So.. driveway is level with the porch, which surprised me.. I just assumed there'd be a step down.. plan was to pave the portico area.. not sure how I am going to do it now. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Driveway!! A nice little garden is going along the fence.. D Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Wardrobe doors. Not painted though.. ?? I'm not sure they are the right doors, I upgraded to vinyl... wasn't expecting the metal edging, but will reserve judgement until they are done. You could do a timber deck over the top of the front porch Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: {dawn} SE Melb Build - Driveway done! 1299May 27, 2017 8:30 pm Do you think it would look okay if I decked the porch, and then did a paved path leading up to it? My only worry with decking is I am not handy.. and don't want to maintain it, so figured pavers would be easier.
