Browse Forums Building A New House Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Friday 11/8 1921Aug 02, 2017 6:20 pm I'm quite lucky in one way, at lot of the post handover jobs are already done... The builder has done flooring, driveway, letterbox, dishwasher, TV antenna.. And in variations I've done concreting all the way around, front fence (80%) and alarm system... And then prior to handover but outside the builder I've done all boundary fencing, blinds, and hopefully shutters (still waiting on install). And I have most of the big furniture pieces and bits n pieces in storage as well. Now just need the keys and do the move, then I can settle in. On another note.. got to love my parents, my dad really wants to get my landscaping done ASAP, but I've had to put the brakes on because I'm out of funds.. so he goes 'we can lend you and you can pay us back before Xmas'...NO THANKS. I would rather load up my credit card then borrow a single cent from them (and what happened to the 1k they were going to gift me for my housewarming??? .. or you know the 8k or so they've 'GIVEN' to my sister over the last few years for a new car, rental bond...etc). Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Friday 11/8 1922Aug 02, 2017 7:52 pm Sent an email to the builder confirming handover next Friday, and also asking for their response to my request for them to pay penalties. I gave them my working out... Assumed Start Date: 26/9/2016 End Date: 11/8/2017 Total Build Days: 320 days Total Contract Period: 245 days Overdue days: 75 days Penalty: $250 a week Amount owed to me: approx $2,600 Will be interesting to see what they come back with. There are a few bits in the contract in their favor, which will enable them to claim more delay days, but they should have put something to me in writing... so we shall see. If I can at least get the $600 waived for the alarm system, that would be a start. If they try to wriggle out of the lot, I will have some very interesting things to say on PR. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Friday 11/8 1923Aug 03, 2017 7:06 pm Going to see the house tomorrow D Will be getting the NBN installed... and hopefully my bins have arrived and I can put them behind the garage and check out my new back fence. Will be interesting to see how much progress has been made by PCI, particularly with cleaning/site cleaning, and painting touch ups.. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Friday 11/8 1924Aug 04, 2017 12:15 am Wow I'm really glad things are just inching ever so closer! Sounds like more happy days than sad days at this stage. Totally get the whole inconsistent parental support thing... my dear wife's mum is like that. Gives you with hand and takes away with the other. Look forward to seeing more positive progress! So happy that your nearly there. Really hope the builder accepts your claim for liquidated damages. Getting your braces off is nearly exciting as the house. Would love to see a pic of your beautiful smile. Who did you end up going with for NBN? Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Friday 11/8 1929Aug 04, 2017 11:35 am Thanks DD I hope he accepts too... otherwise we will have a fight. Haha, no pics... unfortunately after 2 years with braces, my teeth are very yellow. They are doing the full clean next week, and then takes about 6 months of whitening... I'm glad they are off though, my teeth feel so weird XD I went with iiNet. Bit more expensive then some of the others I looked at, but they had the best customer service. $80 a month for NBN on 24mth contract with no activation fee or installation costs and free modem. Plus Iiked that they could fit me in today (which suited me already being off work), I'll be so happy if I know my internet is up and running before I even move in, taking the laptop down there and the modem to make sure its all working fine. Not looking forward to spending up to 4hours in an empty house with no furniture, no food and no heating... but oh well. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Friday 11/8 1930Aug 04, 2017 12:10 pm Sounds like an exciting day! Especially getting the braces off! That's great that you will have the internet set up before you are settled in too. We have the NBN Co scheduled to come around on the Wednesday after we move so will have a couple of days with no internet. Was also going to go with iiNet as we've been with them for years with no complaints but have decided to take a punt on Aussie Broadband. No set up fee (other than the NBN Co newbuild fee) and no contract so if it doesn't work out we can always flip back to iiNet without much problem.
