I was supposed to do uni work after researching utilities yesterday but that took forever and gave me a headache. Our bins are $237/yr. tried to make sense of comparing the electricity and gas providers....apparently they charge you to go green too. Where's the incentive?! And the dreaded internet. Yep $300 we didn't factor in too! We are looking at either TPG or skymesh. Keep in mind, if your FTTP, it's going to be much faster than your parents in comparison Building our forever home! They are telling me 2-3 weeks to get it installed, but I need to be home all day for them to come and do it.. but you know I have a job.. live alone, and don't know my neighbors well enough to let them be there... plus I like.. don't actually live there yet.. but was hoping to have it done BEFORE I moved in. Any providers that have a better way to get it done? Telstra organized the whole thing for us. We had it done from about April and didn't move until may, they just needed access to the garage which we didn't have a garage door so it was fine and our SS was happy to be there since he was working in the estate. My friends had this issue tho and had to get their BIL to wait at their place all day and they never turned up. Their still waiting for Telstra and it's been like 6 weeks. We haven't had an issue we got foxtel with our NBN too Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1806Jul 24, 2017 10:30 am Oh my so much extra coin needed!! I better get planing my to do list. Great read all the above I did a live chat with Optus the otherday and he assured me I would not have the $300 charge but he was really pushing for me to sign on the spot!! I want to order now so nbn is connected before we move in we have home based business so its our livelihoods on the line!! Hope we can arrange to be contacted before they arrive to get ss to let them in. https://www.homeone.com.au/member/bribiebell Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1807Jul 24, 2017 10:42 am Remember either way it's NBN doing the connection not the ISP. So will not change on which company you use. When we first started building I contacted NBN to find process and they will only book the work in after handover so yeah kinda screwed either way. Long gone is the days of each Internet Company having their Own equipment, The only deciding factor is how much bandwidth they buy per user ie Congestion and the customer service quality. I use whirlpool.net.au to see how other users speeds are and how happy with service, and are personally going with Skymesh when we move in. Needless to say I won't bother with a green bin... which is a shame, as you would think they would promote being green. They need 3-5 days notice... so much to do!! *add to list* Wow expensive for the green bins! Gold Coast city council only charge $1 per week. Called Momentum and got my electricity set up. Cant do gas for 60 days Guy at Momentum was really good. Then called Amaysim for NBN, they were no help at all...so moved on to iiNet. Have them coming same day I expect to get keys to do NBN connection. Hope it works out. They were more expensive but used them before and was happy with their service. Then rang storage unit to give them notice ..chasing back fence people...should go up this week. Also requested stamp duty refund forms from broker to complete. Still to chase shutter installation..and then just waiting on builder to confirm a date. So much to do!!!! But feeling better now Im starting to tick things off. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1810Jul 24, 2017 1:56 pm It always feels better when you're actively doing things for the house, I tend to worry too much when I'm not actually doing something. What's the go with the 60 days for gas? Is that until it will switch from builders provider to yours? or 60 days without gas? We already put our stamp duty form in and received our refund 60 days or something later, we weren't expecting it until the end . Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1811Jul 24, 2017 1:59 pm Something about my account being locked to the provider my builder picked for 60 days before i can switch...need to check with the builder what that means for using it. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1812Jul 24, 2017 2:00 pm Wow. I got told I had to wait for my refund. Bad news is Im way over the 12 months so have to justify my delays and hope they still refund me...its 2k I could really use. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1813Jul 24, 2017 2:15 pm It's amazing how quick the to do list grows when you find out keys are on their way! I'm trying to stay focused at work but it's hard not to keep getting distracted by house stuff Our build thread with Smart Homes for Living in Wellard https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=86092 Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1814Jul 24, 2017 2:32 pm aloenyx Wow. We expected to have to do the same thing. I'm sure you'll get it, we queried this with our conveyancer and broker and neither of them had ever heard of anybody missing out because of the 12 month rule, they told us to just put the form in once we had the FHOG number thingy. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1815Jul 24, 2017 2:36 pm I'm envious of all you with $300 NBN connection fees... my estate is an Opticomm estate (basically same technology as NBN but it's a private company supplying the network cabling), and my connection fee was $550 or $595 or something. And I only have about 8 providers I can choose from Grrrrrrrr I'm going to miss Skymesh, I use them now on the NBN and they're freakin awesome! And bins. Ugh. Forgot about those. Better go look at how to sort that. Better go look at how to sort that. We're opticomm too, ours is $550 but some opticomm estates are only $330, I don't understand why? We are currently on 100mbps cable in Geelong, we've had cable for a good price for something like 15 years, in the new house essentially the same thing is going to cost heaps more, it's ridiculous! I do like the no tv antenna and foxtel dish though. The saving of not buying an antenna covers the cost of the opticomm connection. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1817Jul 24, 2017 8:53 pm Busy busy day!!! Signed up with Momentum Energy to supply my electricity, no issue there... however apparently my gas account is locked to Origin for 60days.. then I can move the account across. I'm not sure why I picked Momentum.. they weren't on my black list, and they do 'green' energy. Will see how they go, I'm not locked in so can jump easily if I find a better deal. Got my NBN through iiNet, will get hit with the $300 fee locked into their 24 month contract to avoid the activation and modem fees... they aren't the cheapest around but hopefully the service is good. And they could fit me in to be connected the day I move in (although no idea how I'm going to juggle that day!! As I have dentist appointments morning and evening.. and in the middle need to go to the house). Chased up the shutter people... they will get back to me, shutters were suppose to be here on the 19th of July, still aren't even in the state!! Hoping they can be installed before I move in. Also, followed up with the back fence. A bit annoyed as they said they would install this week, but as they hadn't heard from my neighbor they could only do part of it... EVEN though I already told them via email that I would pay their share just to get it done. Re-confirmed that today, so hopefully fence goes up this week (the whole thing!!!). Gave my notice on the storage unit... Busy busy!! Also chased up the rabbit castle I had on order... way too much time on the phone today But we are getting there!!! I just want it all done before I move in. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1818Jul 24, 2017 8:57 pm I'm sort of shocked about how much needs to be done XD Moving is not going to be easy! Doesn't help that I think I'm getting keys on the 4th, same day I get my braces off.. and I can't take anytime off work for two weeks after that, so everything has to happen THAT day. Need to get my appliances delivered from Good Guys that day too. This wouldn't have been such a big problem if I could have taken my leave when the house was ready. Exhausted just thinking of everything and hoping everything lines up. Will be so happy once I'm in, the few final installations are done (back fence, shutters, gates), utilities are up and running and I'm moved in..and can just relax a little before starting on landscaping. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - Handover Countdown! 1820Jul 25, 2017 9:37 am Stupid no notifications - means I'm missing so much. We have to pay $425 a year for all three bins so that's not too bad I don't think I hope your hear from your builder today sweets!!
