Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 02, 2016 10:52 pm I've recently read a thread which says it takes 2min to get hot water in Kitchen every time they turn on the tap. It's a Henley double storey home with Chromagen HWS Apparently it's because the location of HWS is too far from the kitchen tap. Has anyone else experienced the same problem? Is it normal having to wait for 2min before getting hot water in the tap? Re: Waiting 2min to get hot water in the tap with Chromagen 3Sep 03, 2016 1:13 pm Unsure of said house but if it is a big issue you can get 25 or 50litre hot water systems to go under the bench. Re: Waiting 2min to get hot water in the tap with Chromagen 4Sep 03, 2016 2:56 pm It's not a problem with the hot water service just the length of the pipe runs. Most people prefer the shortest pipe run to the shower. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Waiting 2min to get hot water in the tap with Chromagen 6Sep 03, 2016 10:44 pm I don't think its a problem with the hot water service just the pipe runs. Kitchens with a sink in an island unit are the worst. as it usually involves a pipe run down the wall then through the slab in a conduit and up through the unit. That's a lot of water that gets flushed through the system before the hot water arrives. Here is a post on my blog about the subject http://anewhouse.com.au/2012/02/plumbin ... hot-water/ The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! So it's actually not the specific HWS (Chromagen) that causes this, but mostly due to the length of the pipe from the kitchen island to the HWS? Upgrade to a better HWS (such as Rinnai) wouldn't help? Do most of people have this problem with their kitchen island sink taps? Nowadays such a kitchen design is common.. Re: Waiting 2min to get hot water in the tap with Chromagen 8Sep 04, 2016 6:52 am No a different hot water unit won't help. The solutions are: Don't put the sink on an island (see http://anewhouse.com.au/2013/01/sink-or ... on-island/) Re-arraging the house layout will be better still. or Extra hot water service closer to sink. or A circulation unit that constantly runs hot water in a circuit around the house (expensive to run) Unfortunately the typical project hose design is more focused on fashion than practical things like pipe runs! My internet research had me stumble across these little hot water critters. https://www.stiebel.com.au/shc-compact- ... er-heaters Use 240volt 10 amp plug other than the plumbing in side of things a relatively simple solution to a daily frustrating problem Re: Waiting 2min to get hot water in the tap with Chromagen 11Sep 04, 2016 10:29 pm quiggs The hot water problem is something i have been considering for a while and then seeing this thread made me think a little more into the issue of having to wait for extended periods of time on multiple occasions daily especially in the kitchen. This will be one of the potential options Re: Waiting 2min to get hot water in the tap with Chromagen 12Sep 05, 2016 10:37 am I think if you're going to go to the expense of extra heating of your hot water to a island bench, you might as well go to those special taps that give you water hot enough for your coffee/tea... can't think of the brand. Either way, additional heating will have an ongoing running expenses. Something to consider. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld.
