Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 01, 2016 6:20 am Hi a very good friend of mine is building with Ashford homes, many reviews from this company have been negative and unfortunately she is experiencing the same sort of problems as others have. My question today is in regards to the way the mortar is finished, in the selection stage in March my friend chose and signed off on the raked finish but without no consultation Ashford homes have changed it to the rolled finish. When she questioned them the reply was the finish of the brick was changed recently within the 6 months and that they were within that period change with the brick finish. What exactly does that mean? They even went to say that the rake finish is not covered with warranty and that the rack finish holds moisture and that the rolled finish is to their best interest in the long run. All this does not make sense I believe they have stuffed up and are trying to talk their way out of it. What recourse can my friend have as she is very unhappy as it changes the entire look of her house thanks in advance with any advice you can give Re: Ashford home problem with finish of mortar 2Sep 01, 2016 12:38 pm If it does not make sense to you- you are right! Builder cannot vary raked brick joint selection without owner's consent. Yes builders work is covered with warranty and anything to the contrary is BS. Options? Dig your heels in. Expert assistance will hep but there is the expense. What else has builder changed or forgot? If your friend has not had independent inspector assisting (as I guess) this is the time to get one.
