I would think twice before using the Nougat, i wish i hadn't chosen it. There are a few people on the forum that have major issues with those bricks including me, just do a search on Nougat on the forum first [i]We built in Point Cook and are loving our new house. Re: Bricks Austral Nougat 24Apr 26, 2010 4:31 pm I built a double story using nougat bricks - fortunately I haven't had an issue with the bricks and have been in the house for about 10 months now....I'll try and source a pic for you My karma ran over your dogma Re: Bricks Austral Nougat 27Apr 27, 2010 10:23 pm riverton30 cazoraz riverton30 There is a topic currently running about someone who has these bricks and is having terrible trouble. Maybe search the name for the topics That would be me, thread in my signature. Not happy jan! Yep that's the one! Sorry i was in a rush and didn't get a link to your thread! We were so close to choosing Nougat bricks and I am very relieved we didn't. I don't think you're the only one to have issues with them. Good luck with it!! Give them a miss. Terrible brick. I'm very disappointed. Re: Bricks Austral Nougat 28Apr 28, 2010 7:56 am Stevieg Give them a miss. Terrible brick. I'm very disppointed with them. Hi Stevieg I was following your story in the other trend before it was deleted. How did you go with your bricks, what was the outcome? We too are having problems with these bricks!!! Those Ash colour bricks in Access range look really nice, but it's to late for us now. There are a few people on the forum that have major issues with those bricks including me, just do a search on Nougat on the forum first I totally agree with dreamhome about these bricks. We have used them and they look very different after they had been washed, discoloured, chipped, cracked..... In my opinion there are better bricks out there then these, I would stay away from the whole range to be on the safe side as there are people having problems with other colours within the range. There are also people who haven’t had any problems and I’m very happy for them. If you have your hearts set on them, make sure your builder and yourself do a quality check on the bricks and make sure the builder gives the brick cleaner the right clean specs when it comes to cleaning, it is at this is the point where the problems start. We have chosen this brick but are now so worried about the problems we may experience. I wish I could know how often this brick is used with no problems arising??? aldavies3. Re: Bricks Austral Nougat 32May 19, 2010 5:04 pm Hi all My hubby and I did our colour selections yesterday and knowing full well about all the issues with the Austral Nougat, have still chosen to use them because we couldn't find any others we like so much. Call me CRAZY! Fingers crossed we don't have any issues but at least thanks to everyone on here I can go in well informed and will be requesting notes in my file re cleaning the bricks. We have used this brick with no problem. Thank you for your reply. It's nice to hear of someone who has used these bricks with no trouble. Surely there must be more out there. When you drive through the new estates you can see quite a few houses using the Nougat. Surely not all of them could have trouble, could they??? I hope not. Thank you once again for your input. aldavies3. Call me CRAZY! Fingers crossed we don't have any issues but at least thanks to everyone on here I can go in well informed and will be requesting notes in my file re cleaning the bricks. HI bobbaloochi, Thank you for your post. It's good to know I may not be the only CRAZY person out there, still considering going with the Nougat!! We're the same... can't find anything else that we love as much as the Nougat. The Ash from the Access range is nice, but just not the same as the Nougat. Very close, but seems to be missing that special something the Nougat seems to have. I would never have thought I would be putting this much thought into a brick!!! After speaking again with our CLE, and after emailing her some of the notes I had collected re the Nougat brick issues, we have also decided to stick with the Nougat. But we will certainly be doing the same as you... asking them to put notes on our file in regards to how they are cleaned etc. What type of mortar joints did you choose? Flush or rolled iron, or something else? It is recommended on the Austral website to go with the rolled iron mortar joints with this brick. I spoke to a brickie who was laying these bricks for PD, and he also said the same. Apparently this type of joint creates less mess on the brickwork hence less to clean off hence the cleaning doesn't need to be so abrasive. Nice to hear from you. When are you starting your build? Where are you building? When you start, make sure to keep in touch and update us all on how your bricks go. aldavies3. Re: Bricks Austral Nougat 36May 20, 2010 10:59 am Hi aldavies3! Great to hear from you too! We are building in Coast Estate, Seaford Rise - SA. Builder is Hickies, plan is a modified Preston. I know what you mean regarding the brick, when we arrived at Colours we actually had another one picked out and then upon seeing Nougat on the wall - fell in love again and decided to risk it! Nice to know someone else is taking the risk also, fingers crossed for both of us! I haven't specified any type of mortar joints, just didn't think of it and only read your post regarding what was recommended yesterday so had I read that earlier I would have said it. Oh well - hopefully it will be ok. Our build will hopefully start in August as land settles end of July. We are waiting for an investment property to settle which is happening in the next few weeks. I will absolutely keep in touch once it starts. If for no other reason than to post some photos as i just love looking at everyone else's and feel i should return the favour! Where are you building? Re: Bricks Austral Nougat 37May 28, 2010 1:50 pm Have just stumbled on this thread and yep we've chosen the infamous nougat brick, along with the chocolate one in the same range! Oh dear oh dear! The brickies should have just finished laying them yesterday or today so now it's a nervous wait to see how our bricks hold up. Good to hear some people aren't having problems with them, a glimmer of hope for us all yet! Will let you know how we go with them. Re: Bricks Austral Nougat 38Jun 30, 2010 9:35 pm Mickeyb and others, Haven't been online for a while, but I have had an excellent outcome with my builder and the Nougat brick issue. I submitted a formal letter of complaint to my builder and had a number of meetings with senior managers. After consideration they agreed that the bricks were not as per the sample and were of a poor standard. Result: the house is being rebricked with a different brick at the expense of the Austral. The builder has also ditched the Nougats from its options. I have now selected the Austral Ash brick which is a solid colour brick without the crappy 'nougat' slurry finish. Not many people are aware, but Austral changed the Nougat brick about 12 months ago. The sample I had was the original version so I was able to argue that the brick supplied was not what I had selected. The original Nougat used a beige coloured base brick, whereas the new Nougat uses an orange base brick and that's why they are now causing so many problems. I strongly recommend to anyone considering using the Nougats... save yourself a major disappointment and choose a different product. Feel free to follow my blog at steviegsinspiration.blogspot.com I will be posting some photos this weekend of the Nougats being pulled down and the new bricks going up. Re: Bricks Austral Nougat 39Jun 30, 2010 10:22 pm Good on you Steve, well done. I luckily changed from the Nougat at the last minute, and looking at my Austral Parchment (solid brick, similar light color) I'm very very happy that I did!! I'll be following your blog to see those things ripped down! Re: Bricks Austral Nougat 40Jun 30, 2010 11:08 pm Congratulations on your outcome and I’m glad the brick company came to the party and your builder went in to bat for you. We now have to go to upper management to resolve this brick issue, hopefully we get a phone by the week’s end to organise an on-site meeting.
