Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 23, 2016 8:16 am Hi, We are building a new home and not sure how to go about getting electrical work done. It is double story home and we would like to have our own sparky do some (or all) work if possible. I understand builders normally do not allow any external contractor onsite until their work is finished. So just wondering if anyone can point us in a right direction. Thanks. The upper floor we can add more downlights etc later. Generally the bigger builders won't let any other tradies onsite. Did you get builder to do (Standard) down lights for you or just had batten lights put in place of downlights and you put the downlights after handover. Not sure if its worth the trouble. Re: New home electric work builder vs your own sparky 5Aug 25, 2016 11:56 am We just did the downlights. We figured by the time we had our own sparky come back and change them all over we wouldn't save much if anything. We were lucky we were able to go direct through the electrician for a couple of other things we didn't do in the initial plan with the builder too.
