Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 22, 2016 8:55 pm Okay this might seem like a strange question - but I just wanted to know if anyone had done this, did it work? Or had you thought about it? Or ideas about the thought? So I'm coming up to the end of my build in a couple of weeks. I have my PCI on the 16th September and hopefully handover a week later. Now there are a few things I have already picked up that either really can't be repaired but kinda put a downer on the 'new' status or the look isn't really 100% but I can live with it and know it would put a huge delay in - which I don't have time for as I have just sold my house and settlement will be about 2.5 weeks after handover, so I can have some delays but something tells me the bricks would be more than 2.5w delay. So the 2 things I have picked up is first on my slab portico, some trade - I think it may have been the brickies have chipped the corner off. If they try and do a repair you would still see the repair as it would be a patch job, its not a deal breaker but again I have paid for a new house and would expect to get it in new condition - if I chipped it I would live with it - but I would prefer to have chipped it myself and live with it then have to accept someone else was careless with my property. The next bit is on my garage side with my bricks. It seems between my bedroom 4 and garage they have done unneat work - I haven't got a photo to show right now, but the mortar is uneven, spacing uneven between the window and corner, maybe about 3-4 rows - I didn't notice it when it first went up as I couldn't get to that side due to a huge water mud puddle. Then about 3 weeks ago I walked down there and noticed it but of course since then downpipes, eaves etc have all gone on. To repair it will require pulling down a downpipe which is painted, pull down about 8 rows of bricks to get to the row affected, then redo them, clean and put everything back. Now the thing is, its my dead side of my house - rest of the house is beautiful so I was shocked to find this - I think it was the last bit done and rushed. Honestly I will rarely see it, nor would anyone visiting me and it doesn't affect the stability of the house, so I would happy to just leave it but I think I should have some credit or something for accepting it. Basically what I'm saying is, if I went into a store to buy something and it had a cosmetic issue I know the store would happily give me money off the price to take it. I feel for a new house I should be credited for accepting to take not 100% workmanship. I mean there are areas I haven't been happy with and they have fixed, repaired or replaced because they were things I wouldn't accept - eg my bin drawer in my kitchen had a broken bin, I had a dint in the corner of my alfresco post from being dropped on the slab and they still installed it etc. But I know the brickwork where it is and the chip I could live with - I just feel I shouldn't have to live with it knowing I paid 100% for it. So has anyone asked for credit or taking poor cosmetic workmanship? I just don't know if its the done thing in the building world or if you just make them fix it - however with the chip on the slab even a repair will never make it look how it should. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Credit for Non Perfection? 2Dec 27, 2016 7:59 am Interesting, no replies. Are we to take it that the status quo is live with it and move on? I agree with the points you make regarding store bought items that are refunded or reduced if not the exact product you expect to buy, but a chip in your HOUSE?! Why shouldnt it be treated the same?! Either reduce costs so you can spend the money to get it fixed, or the builder is to fix it. Simple. That saying "you get what you pay for" well I am sure you didnt pay for 3 quarters of a brick, you paid for a whole brick, so you should be demanding whole. Thats my opinion and I will be watching our builders progress from start to finish. They've just gotta get started first! Let me know what you decided. Good luck.
