I'd have to agree with you Scott. The less I know the better sometimes as long as the house doesn't fall down. Re: My Metricon Bordeaux 56 build 343Feb 15, 2017 11:04 am So true! A lot of the time it's just better not to know. Re: My Metricon Bordeaux 56 build 344Feb 15, 2017 11:07 am dulie So true! A lot of the time it's just better not to know. I did a renovation in the past and ended up going to vcat because of a disagreement. Absolutely stress laden process and not worth it. Lesson learned. Re: My Metricon Bordeaux 56 build 345Feb 15, 2017 11:22 am dulie So true! A lot of the time it's just better not to know. Haha. I rather know now and get them to fix it then move in to only discover the issue. Re: My Metricon Bordeaux 56 build 346Feb 15, 2017 11:26 am vuster Special_K How are you finding metricon build quality and customer service anyway? I found the colour and electrical consultants really good. I was quite disappointed with my Customer support coordinator. She ignored a lot of my emails and ignored some changes I requested. All the admin took forever and they continuously made mistakes and it was always up to me to find them. I must of read my plans/variations/contracts 100 times because each time a new revision came out I had to go through it thoroughly again from the very beginning. I felt like my CSC assumed that I was wrong when I raised errors in the contract. They double charged me on one upgrade and she told me that she spoke to the estimator and he said it was correct. I insisted and then finally she confirmed I was right after speaking to the estimating manager. The construction experience was much better. My CSC was friendly and helpful and always responded to my emails. Supervisor isn't too bad however it would be nice if he gave me frequent updates instead of me calling to ask. I don't get responses to half of my emails. There have been a few issues on the way and if I wasn't inspecting the house every day it would of been missed quite easily if it wasn't for me raising them. e.g. * Insulation not installed in sections, * The earth that comes from the power box was detached from the slab. * tile/plaster reveals not installed * Plasterer installing cornices in a section which I upgraded to square set. * Incorrect window size * Incorrect stone installed The attention to detail needs to be improved.Saying that my experience hasn't been that bad. I haven't lost any sleep over anything. The trades people I've had so far have been fairly good. I haven't regretted picking M and the Bordeaux. I had a lot of issues with my colour and joinery appointment and with my CSC early on. Once I escalated and had my CSC replaced and only then thinks started to get better. Even the Sales consultant admitted that their Admin process was really bad and this is after the recent internal improvements. So I can't image how bad it used to be before. Yes this fabled internal reorganisation to address quality issues I've heard of.. But not sure if it's made a real difference yet. Good to hear you guys are getting some decent service though. Re: My Metricon Bordeaux 56 build 348Feb 15, 2017 11:57 am Honestly so far I've had quite a pleasant experience. Of course there's issues here and there, but you have to be realistic. It's bound to happen with any house build, I would imagine the experience would be quite similar with any other large builder. All comes down to the actual people that are assigned to you, luck of the draw really. I've done my build in parallel with my auntie, we started with the same sales consultant, he was fantastic, we signed the same day with him etc. After that we got assigned different CSC. This is where I could see a big difference in the quality of customer service, my lady was rubbish and very lazy while my aunties CSC was awesome. But yeah, still worked through it, just wasn't as pleasant as my aunties experience during that period. Now in construction, once again we have different SMs. So far both have been pretty accommodating to our needs. I'm still smiling, and not overly stressed. Hopefully it stays like this until completion. Re: My Metricon Bordeaux 56 build 349Feb 15, 2017 12:31 pm dulie Honestly so far I've had quite a pleasant experience. Rather than someone who is more concern about ticking a box and pushing it along. Positive experience like yours is why people choice volume builders. So it sounds like your experience is going to mainly depend on the site supervisor and the csc. Not really familiar with what a csc does. Is this very different from the sales consultant? The CSC looks after the admin stages such as colour, joinery and electrical appointment and getting the variations/contract done. Re: My Metricon Bordeaux 56 build 352Feb 16, 2017 9:46 am That is a very lovely build and I am so happy your house is coming together nicely! Can I ask what is the total cost to build with Metricon so far and was there any add-ons you have to do with Metricon after contract, and is it allowed? Many thank you for posting the detailed build so we can learn as we are all new to building. Just the thought of taking on something like building already making us nervous Re: My Metricon Bordeaux 56 build 353Feb 16, 2017 10:45 am aussiemunchkins That is a very lovely build and I am so happy your house is coming together nicely! Many thank you for posting the detailed build so we can learn as we are all new to building. Just the thought of taking on something like building already making us nervous Thanks for your kind words. Total cost for just the build that M will charge me is 980K. This doesn't include the following: * Landscaping * Carpet * demolition * feature lights * window furnishings * Mirrors to my cabinetry areas I did make a few changes after contract however they were non structural. They were electrical changes and installation of additional external mouldings. As long as it's not structural changes then your chances of getting changes through are higher. Structural changes require engineering and surveyor changes which add cost and time for the builder. I hope that helps. Guess I better keep up the lotto syndicate Has anyone had any luck negotiating estimates with M? Re: My Metricon Bordeaux 56 build 355Feb 16, 2017 11:08 am Hi Vuster A great thread which I am enjoying reading. A few questions - are you using an independent inspector? If so, who? Secondly, who are you thinking to do your landscaping and what sort of budget are you working towards? Re: My Metricon Bordeaux 56 build 356Feb 16, 2017 11:33 am Special_K vuster 980k .. Does this include a pool? Guess I better keep up the lotto syndicate Has anyone had any luck negotiating estimates with M? Pool was extra roughly 60k. I complained about the shower heads being much more expensive than the Bunnings one and managed to get a discount. Not an easy task to get discounts. Secondly, who are you thinking to do your landscaping and what sort of budget are you working towards? Thanks. I used darbecca for my inspections. I'm going to try and do some landscaping myself like paving and decking. I'm guessing 50k-65k might be enough.
