Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 11, 2016 9:41 pm Hi guys, We took the plunge and bought a 750sqm house in Manningham council area, looking to subdivide and living in one of it. Specs we are looking at: 2 side-by-side houses 4BR, 3B, want double lock-up garage Currently we are at the design stage, however our builder insists that we are not able to have double lock-up garages (2 DLUGs) on both sides. The lot right opposite us which is also building, has 2 DLUGs though, and while driving through the neighbourhood there are some other houses with the same lot width and specs with 2 DLUGs. Does that sound right? We question the builder but he says that councils change their mind all the time. We are not sure how to proceed. In our area, having 2 DLUGs is crucial as there is no public transport. I welcome any opinions. I just want to have a discussion Thanks all Re: Subdivision in Manningham council area 2Aug 14, 2016 10:44 pm We are not in Manningham so can't help re their current rules but I can tell you that the neighbouring Whitehorse council has changed the rules with respect to the frontage width required for such subdivisions in the last two years (and I believe Monash council has done the same). Based upon that I'd say that there is a very real possibility that your builder is correct and the rules have changed. I'd strongly recommend finding out your council's current rules on the subject and also whether there are any proposed changes in the works.
