Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 28, 2016 1:01 pm Hello Everyone, Just wanted to know from anyone that have recently built with Metricon in melbourne, on how their customer service and response time is? From the very beginning I have been struggling to work with them as it seems like they cant be bothered to work with us. It has been a 9 months long process and we still to date do not have an outcome. We have complained to managers and tried to escalate the issue however it seems like nobody in the company really cares. We have signed the prelim contract of $1000 but are ready to forgo that payment as we have no confidence that the build experience with Metricon will get any better and if its been this bad so far I cant even imagine how bad will it get along the way. Has anyone had similar experiences with them? Also now I am worried if all builders are the same and if the service is going to be similar. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Re: Building with Metricon-Disappointing 2Jul 28, 2016 2:29 pm Damn, doesn't sound like you're having much luck. I'm from QLD so I guess my pleasant experience with Metricon doesn't really help you at all. Building with Metricon-Disappointing 3Jul 28, 2016 2:38 pm It does sound like it's hasnt been pleasant at all. We are building with M and there has been ups and downs along the way so far but I wouldn't complain overall. The initial deposit was 3 months ago and we have had color and electrical done and waiting for contract next month. This may have been the case of someone just not doing their job. Which stage are you at currently and where is the delay coming from ? Have you escalated to management ? The SC usually are helpful as they would also be getting bonus with contract signing . With my experience being on top of every step and following up somethings not done or delayed. I had an issue where all pre contract requests were being treated as post contract and after some heated emails and escalations , things got sorted and I'm getting so much better service since. I can say that after our job was sent from the SC into their office things began to progress a bit more quickly and I haven't had much of an issue since. YMMV Volume builders as a whole would have similar issues, my relatives have built with Simmonds and they experienced their own problems so I have gone into this with an open mind and a heap of patience. Re: Building with Metricon-Disappointing 5Aug 18, 2016 8:47 pm I am located in Melbourne and am building with Metricon. I can vouch for a horrible experience. My experience however did not turn bad until mid-way through construction. the contract admin stage was alright however, so if yours is bad even at contract stage, if I were you, I would probably be as wary as you are. We have now gone past contract date and given the way the progress payments work, I have paid 90% of the construction costs (this was back in 2015!) and the last 10% is not attractive enough for them to hurry up and finish the job. I am still not at handover yet. The contract requires them to pay a measley $250 per week penalty which is nowhere near covering the real costs of delays. If you are at contract stage, you might want to try to alter that clause (if they would even let you) I have written in and complain to customer care many a times which didn't help my cause at all - the construction team just do what they like in respect of their timelines. I initially had a rookie site supervisor who rocks up in his ute and stays in his ute in the nice aircond (when our build was progressing during summer) until I arrive when we had site meetings. He did not seem to have any control over the subcontractors and things were beginning to stall and the site sat idle for nearly 2-3 months. Complaining to the Construction Manager who is supposed to be his boss did not help either and the CM just feed me the same fob-off excuses about how the house was progressing. Metricon strategy was then to switch site managers on me because obviously I could not be finding fault with a new guy as I had not been working with him. New guy seemed more experienced but was trying to hurry me to settle and made me feel like i was delaying the settlement! So not impressed with him either. This is my experience and judging from the posts to their facebook, I am not the only one. Don't think this would help your decision - but good luck if you are still proceeding with them! Re: Building with Metricon-Disappointing 6Aug 18, 2016 9:04 pm No, not all builders are the same. We went with a large volume builder for our first build and it was awful. For our second build we started the search with the volume builders, including Metricon, for the price but after getting some quotes from about 4 small builders we realised we could build for the same price (actually less) and have a much more personal experience. It's been great so far. Our builder is always in contact as he likes to keep the process moving and we have saved so much as we havent been charged ridiculous amounts for 'upgrades'. $1000 is not that mush in the scheme of things...
