Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 17, 2016 3:20 pm Hi everyone,
I'm looking to organise a building inspector for a newly constructed off-the-plan apartment I'm buying. The reason being I want someone who knows what they're doing to check the building is up to standard, everything stipulated in my contract has been done properly by the developer, etc. There are plenty of businesses / people offering this service, but I have no idea which of them know their stuff and which don't. I figure there's no point in paying to get this done unless the person doing it is an expert in this area – not just someone who did a 3 week course, etc. Does anyone know if any of the following memberships indicate an inspector is suitably qualified to do the job? - Building Commission of WA - Housing Industry Association WA - Master Builders Association I also found an organisation called the 'Building Inspectors Association WA' – http://biawa.org.au/. Sounds good. But does anyone know if membership in this organisation carries any weight? Is there anything else I need to be looking at in this scenario? It's worth noting I'll be making sure I choose an inspector who has professional indemnity insurance. Any information that helps clear this up for me would be greatly appreciated. EDIT – Edited for clarity.
