Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 15, 2016 12:37 pm Hi I'm about to start building a granny flat on and existing old brick shelter. The flat is going on top of the existing brick walls. The new granny flat will be bigger in m2 than the existing brick work and this is where I need your advice. The poles I am thinking of using will be wooden 90x90. The total for plan will be 80m2 and the drawings have indicated I will need 18 poles. Can I use wooden and place steel brackets embedded in cement footing? Working with wood seems easier for me. Re: Granny flat build 3Jul 15, 2016 4:08 pm The rules on the gold coast changed in Feb and a granny flat under 80 m2 no longer requires DA Approval but still requires an engineer to provide a report so to answer your question the drawings don't include poles. Re: Granny flat build 4Jul 16, 2016 8:24 am Well if you had plans drawn up the engineer would have used those based on what is there now and what is proposed to be built on top of that. You are also contradicting yourself. In your opening posts you say... Quote: the drawings have indicated I will need 18 poles Then in your second post you say... I'm hoping the engineer will be able to tell me if the poles should be steel or wood but in the meantime until I engage the engineer I was hoping to get an idea on this forum.
