Just thought I could use some more eyes to see if I've missed anything? Which direction does your block face? Personally, I think getting the orientation right is the most important thing with any house design. Who doesn't want a nice bright house, which is warm in winter & cool in summer? This can be quite easy to achieve by choosing a design that locates the living areas (& a large portion of the windows to the north), so they are warmed by the sun in winter, & shaded by eaves in summer. Limiting western windows will keep the house cooler in summer (you don't want bedroom windows facing west). Do this & you'll have a house that is more comfortable, plus you'll greatly reduce your bills for heating & cooling. The term to look up is "passive solar" design. More can be found on this great government website, http://yourhome.gov.au/passive-design/ Thank you. I believe the front of our house is west. Our builder said we should get all the daytime sun through the living areas and the afternoon sun will hit the garage. Does that sound right? Hi Kel, Nice plan.. The house can't be west facing based on what builder said (Sounds more like North facing) I second Shelby, put the bed rooms together and move laundry Do you need a door from WIR to the side of the house?[/quote] Thank you, Will def look into moving bedrooms around. The door in the WIR is to a little parents retreat/deck. And we will be eventually making the side yard into a courtyard. Our daughter can have the back yard and make a mess lol. You will have no natural light in there with toilet on that side There won't be any doors around toilet, so the light should come through. Hubby refuses to have another shower with a window in it lol 5 10604 I had an old shower unit that broke on me and when I took it off, there were only 2 water pipes, instead of the normal 2 water pipes and a shower head pipe.
