So I have been reading a lot of the topics diarising people's builds and have succumbed to wanting one of my own
I am a First Home Buyer/Builder and would appreciate your input at any stage!!
Timeline so far:
30 May - Approached my preferred builder to help find a block of land.
4 Jun - Signed to purchase the land, building in the Newhaven Estate in WA.
Rest of June - Madly altering draft plans to fit my block (its an odd shape, I'll include some photos later), trying to sign off and get to contracts so I don't have to settle house and land separately to avoid stamp duty.
30 June - Sign final draft of house plan and costs estimate to send it to contracts.
7 July - Granted extension on land settlement.
There is one thing that I am still feeling uneasy about regarding the plan.
I hadn't initially noted that my ensuite bathroom had shrunk from 1700 to 1500 between two drafts. The Sales Guy talked me out of going back up to 1700 as it would have taken space from my dining area. There are two reasons I am now uneasy. In the original brief I told Sales Guy, I hated small toilets that you have to maneuver around the door to get into, he 'solved' this by making the WC wider. My second concern is that with my decision to go with removing the shower screen and instead having a tiled wall, the loss of 200 is going to create a lot of water splash out of the shower space.
But I feel I have been corralled into leaving the space as is because of wanting to push this to contracts and hitting budget.
I keep getting told that you always make a decision in every build that you regret later, but I don't want one right at the starting block!!
Sales Guy also forgot to include hobless shower in the estimates and I am now going to have to pay for that at prestart....
So TIA for reading my ramblings. Like I mentioned all input is valued
