Re: Bel's new house - Upstairs bricking - Roof next 647Feb 26, 2011 10:44 am Now that's what i like to see bel Lots & lots of piccies BTW, have i said how much I love the Blackheaths Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Bel's new house - Upstairs bricking - Roof next 648Feb 26, 2011 10:56 am Thanks ladies By the end of next week I'm hoping the complete the bricking. At the moment they are up to the bottom of the first floor. The brickies are a team of 2. The young labourer they had, decided that being a bricklayer was too much like hard work, so he is off to have a go at carpentry. The brickies therefore have to do their own labouring, and as most of you know, our site is a shocker! Southies - next time you are walking our way, give me a buzz and I'll meet you there! You can see our lovely Blackheaths in all their glory!!! (Obviously you can look at your own.........ha ha) Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Bel's new house - Upstairs bricking - Roof next 653Feb 27, 2011 10:35 pm Hi Bel - love ur brick colours - & u've got some good brickies there, the morter joints are perfect - buy the boys a few beers & say thanku, & i'll bet they will outdo themselves for the rest of the build - simple folk us mere males we love praise...... its looking good, i don't know if i've mentioned it b4, but u did very well with the plans keeping the plumbing in the same sections of top & bottom levels - cost soooooo much more when u run plumbing all over the place - very good planning & better value for plumbing dollar cheers Tony Re: Bel's new house - Upstairs bricking - Roof next 654Feb 28, 2011 6:45 am Hey Tony thanks for coming to have a look at our place Great to know about the bricking - I have already bought them a 6 pack last Friday, so might have to go get them some more! They are great guys, who work darn hard, so I don't mind getting them a few beers here and there! Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Bel's new house - Upstairs bricking - Roof next 655Feb 28, 2011 10:28 am yes a lot of tradies work very hard & take pride in their work - a house is probably one of the biggest investments people make, so IMO it pays the owner to keep the site neat & tidy (sets a standard & is something we can do each nite - DONT touch their gear), dangle a few carrots like that 6 pac every now & again & TALK with ur tradies, don't be frightened to ask their advice about any part of the building even outside their trade - these chaps see hundreds of sites a year, if their on side they will often give u a bit of advice simply based on their experience on other sites. If my boys were going to be on site for a week, i'd always fire up the BBQ up on a Tuesday - theory being first day to get to know each other a bit, second day show some appreciation & encouragement.... just say u like to have a bite on site now & again (best at start of the week - 3 1/2 left after lunch ) don't do it each day. also i'd get Mrs V to cook up a batch of scones now & again - same thing - u get to know them better & they feel appreciated - might just be a country thing but boy it works. i don't know how many people tell me a year or so later that someone they know worked on our house & said what a good site it was.... that 6 pac was a good investment Bel. cheers Tony Re: Bel's new house - Upstairs bricking - Roof next 656Feb 28, 2011 12:11 pm I am going down with a case tonight for my renderers. the army has really done a good job.... over half my house done now so i will be thanking them with a case. I have also found out that rendering is only 1 part of their business so it pays to keep spirits up as i no doubt will need something else during this build https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=37134 THE THREAD https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=35962 THE BLOG! http://pedrosinspiredbeauty.blogspot.com/ BRICKS BRICKS ARE FINISHED... Re: Bel's new house - Upstairs bricking - Roof next 658Mar 06, 2011 5:47 pm Exciting isn't Southies I think they would have finished last week if we hadn't run out of bricks Good thing was we saw the extra bricks get delivered Saturday afternoon so *fingers crossed* the brickies will be there tomorrow early. I have an early meeting, so won't be able to do the drive by, so will check it out tomorrow night. Builder said that plumber is booked, brick cleaner is booked and I think roofer.
