Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 02, 2016 9:58 pm Hi all, Considering a KDR in bayside Melbourne. Would build a double storey 4br 2bath double garage house, for a kdr to be cost effective it would have to come in around the $450k mark (actual build cost only). I know we could do this with a volume builder, but I can't find any with designs that would fit on our short corner block 16x26m that I like from the outside. The typical newbuild modern is just not my thing, much prefer a period style house particularly Californian bungalow but talking to more custom or period builders has us looking upward of $600 so not an option. I do love the internal layout of the new homes (butlers panty walk in robe etc) so what if we did a volume build house and picked the right Windows and roofing etc during the build, then later added our own verandah land landscaping etc to give it a more 'period' look. Would that just be weird and ugly? Has anyone ever done anything like this, tried to 'disguise' a volume build house into looking like something different? Any links to builders or blogs that might help greatly appreciated...we are in bayside Melbourne. Thanks!
