Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 29, 2016 8:04 pm I have finally decided and put down a deposit. After a long search I think I have settled on the Clovelly. I narrowed it down to three builders Fairhaven, Carlilse and Porter Davis. My main reason for choosing Fairhaven was their willingness to alter floor plans and I also found them to be more transparent with pricing. I have made a few changes to the standard floor plan. I moved the main bedroom to the front, turned front living into bedroom four which has been moved from rear bedrooms. Front living has been moved to between bed 2 & 3 and will now be a rumpus/ teenage retreat. I have also gone with most of the upgrades in the display. Pricing on all my changes/selections were reasonable but I wasn't very happy when I saw the fixed site costs, they are $7,000 more than Carlilse, $4,000 more than Porter Davis and $8,500 more than Henley. I am thinking I might not fix site costs and wait for soil testing when the block titles. Carlilse seem to be building most of the new homes around me so I am hoping their estimate is accurate and I can save a few dollars and spend more at color selections. Plans haven't quite been finalized yet but here is the standard. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And my alterations. It's a bit of a gamble with the site costs but I feel a bit more confident after going for a drive to have a look at how they are progressing with the roads/services and met one of my new neighbors. He has just finished building a similar size home about 150 meters away from my block on the same side of the street and his site costs worked out to be $11,500 cheaper than Fairhaven quoted me on fixed. Fingers crossed and hopefully all of my research pays off. I will have no problems spending the savings at color, I am thinking it will be eaten up quickly with upgraded flooring and benches! Were you able to get a supplier list before color appointment? I don't think 3hrs will be long enough if I haven't had a good chance to browse through my options. Re: Building Clovelly 248 with Fairhaven homes in Katandra R 4Jun 30, 2016 7:02 pm We didn't get a supplier list and our colour appointment went for 5-6 hours and we had a fairly good idea what we were going to select. It looks on track to title on time by Oct/Nov. My daughter loves her new neighbors the kangaroos, I don't think they feel the same way they took off when they saw us coming. Also got an email from the conveyancer saying land is due to title on time by the end of spring and to be available for settlement in November, after reading the horror stories on here I was a bit wary about the developers timeline. I'm up to my 4th quote! I can't help myself and keep tweaking the plans, just waiting for some pricing on my latest changes and then my file will be sent to admin/colors. My 17 year old thinks I am a weirdo/stalker for pulling up to strangers houses and taking photos of their colorbond roofs, just slightly obsessed at the moment. Fingers crossed that everything keeps moving along smoothly. Re: Building Clovelly 248 with Fairhaven homes in Katandra R 7Sep 05, 2016 8:23 pm That's good news about your block and that you locked in before the base price increase. Which Stage are you? We are in Stage 8 Hello my new neighbour !! I'm in stage 9 on Tallawong. I think stage 8 is due to title late October/early November and then 9 will title a week or 2 later. Have you chosen a builder yet? Re: Building Clovelly 248 with Fairhaven homes in Katandra R 14Sep 18, 2016 3:08 pm 1616 We will be building with Henley. Yes there were delays in titling for Stage 8 we were initially told it would title in July Did you fix your site costs? If yes do you mind telling me how much? It's my biggest concern. I got to park on my own driveway for the first time, never thought something so simple could be so exciting . Titles can't be too far away. The consultant was really helpful and gave me a rough idea for pricing on bricks, flooring and tile upgrades. I was really happy until I discovered that Austral Bricks had discontinued their 119mm bricks from the indulgence range. I spent a precious day off work driving around looking at bricks and has my heart set on the cat 3 biscotti 119mm bricks. The only other ones I like are cat 7 and I can't justify the extra $$. I dropped into Beaumonts on the way home to cheer myself up. I think I have worked out tiles and cabinets for the ensuite. Thinking.... We have also signed up to build the clovelly248 with a few modifications. Our land settlement is not until June -Sept 17, so a bit of a wait for us yet. Would love to keep updated with your build. Hi Clovelly, great choice. Unfortunately they got in touch a couple of weeks ago and said I couldn't have the facade I wanted because it would take me over 60% block coverage. I think it is a great design but I couldn't quite tweak it to fit my needs. The facades are not that good and the only two I liked -provincial or botany(riverwalk display) wouldn't fit. I was happy with the level of customer service but it would take ages to get changes to the sales contract costed. I think they build a nice house. Good luck will follow your build with interest. We are looking to do a KDR with fairhaven homes, Have seen plenty of good reviews about them pre construction and plenty of negative reviews about them during contruction… 0 18028 Ask for references and speak to them.
